Environment Impact Assessment The environment impact assessment is a process to measure the

anticipated effects on the environment due to a proposed development project. The effects are analysed
and mitigation measures for the same is addressed. So this is an important tool for integrating the
objective of environment management into the decision making process to ensure sustainable
development. The Government of India (GOI) under its notification called Environment Impact
Assessment (EIA) Notification 2006 (available at http://envfor.nic.in/legis/eia/so1533.pdf) has addressed
the concerns of environment and notified industries the norms, procedures to obtain environment
clearances for various of the schedules. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
(MOEFCC, http://www.moef.gov.in/ ), GOI reviews the technical quality concerns for maintaining the
ecological prosperity around and thus provides guidelines through various office memorandums time to
time.
Environment Management Plan Environment management plan (EMP) covers the formulation,
implementation and monitoring of environmental protection measures during and after commissioning of
the projects. It is an integral part of an EIA study which addresses the concerns of the likely impacts of
any project.
