The Gospel According To Matthew 23:37 – 23:39

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee,
how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her
wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. For I say unto you, Ye shall not
see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.”

After reading this scripture thoroughly, I realized that it had a natural and a spiritual meaning.
The way Jesus explains this is dramatic and overpowering in spirit. He is trying to tell them something
that they just can’t seem to hear. I can almost detect a frustration or annoyance in Jesus towards the
people at whom he was ministering, like he just wanted them to understand but they could not. He is
explaining that Jerusalem, because of their denial of the gospel of Christ, would suffer and not see God
until they realized what they had done wrong and amended it. He also implies that the so called
“churches” of Jerusalem were all talk, and had no real spiritual revelation or connection with God; he
goes through that several times in this book.

The natural Jerusalem, or country, has been the only nation of the world to be known for
upholding the standards of God. Why, then, did Jesus tell them they were wrong? He claimed they killed
prophets, and stoned those sent to them from God. Jerusalem was too religious, too set in their ways,
they didn’t want to change. The scribes and Pharisees hated Jesus because he stirred things up, and
made people look at them in any way other than perfect. The church of Jerusalem was built like a
government and all the higher-up’s were treated as royalty, Jesus said this was wrong and those
involved were wrong. He said that to be a man of God you had t be a servant, not a master.

“your house is left unto you desolate.” Jerusalem has been a country torn apart by war and
hatred. The Holocaust put the Jews of the world on their knees and really shook them as a whole. The
conflict between Jerusalem and the middle-east has only escaladed, and is becoming nearly
uncontrollable. “Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name
of the Lord.” Jerusalem needs a wake-up call. Judaism and Islam will admit that Jesus was a piece to the
puzzle of God, but they are still missing the point. All of the pieces put together equal Jesus. Jesus was
the living God manifested in the flesh, he represented the fullness and truth of all that was, and is, and is
to come. Jerusalem has not seen God, nor have they accepted The Revelation Of Jesus Christ as the one
true doctrine sent from our Father which is in Heaven to guide man to the life. They will continue to
struggle until the realization is made that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God, sent to die and be reborn, that
all men may have remission of their sins.

The spiritual Jerusalem is made up of the cities of this world. In the book of Revelation it talks
about how New Jerusalem would descend from Heaven, which implies that there is an “Old Jerusalem.”
The nation Jerusalem does not cover all of the people of this world, nor does it include all of the
churches of this world. Man’s creation in general is Old Jerusalem, and it is the mother of harlots, and
will send up smoke for ever and ever once judged by the Father. Man has spent his entire existence
trying to play God. We are never satisfied, always wanting the next best thing and never having enough.
What is the point of chasing after things that; A. will never satisfy you, and, B. will not carry on beyond
this world? There is no point. We get caught up for our entire lives on things that completely do not
matter. You can never have a nice enough car, or a big enough house, our human mind will not let those
things make us happy. Jesus said, in Matthew, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests,
but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.” The world is a perfect puzzle except for one piece
that does not fit; us. Man is the anomaly, man is the only creature that walks the earth that has any
interest in things that are not completely essential to his survival; we have hobbies and preferences.

We know we are the children of God, whether we like to admit it or not. We are fascinated
more than anything with the two god-like qualities, creating and giving life. Nothing has thrilled us or
baffled us more throughout history than constructing and building newer and bigger things, or than
farming or cloning to have control over life. We need to feel this dominion over all the Earth; that is god-
like in itself. A child cannot learn to be an adult without its parent, nor can we learn to be spiritual
beings without guidance from our Father. The Bible tells us that we must enter into the Kingdom of
Heaven as children. We have to humble ourselves before God in order to truly learn anything. We have
to take the straight and narrow way of the Christ and not stray into the things of man. The only thing
man has ever successfully invented was death in the Garden of Eden when he partook of the fruit of the
knowledge of good and evil instead of the fruit of life.
