Health Information Services
Your role in health care is to assemble patients' health information which includes:
medical history, symptoms, examination results, diagnostic tests, treatment methods, and all
other healthcare provider services. You organize and manage health information data by
ensuring its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security. You regularly communicate with the
physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify the diagnoses or to obtain additional
information about the patient. Your duties may vary depending on how big or small the facility
is that you are working at and where you are placed in that facility.
Some Requirements
Medical records and health information technicians generally have an associate degree.

Some advancement opportunities you can get after gaining experience in an occupation.
Advancement can come in several forms, including advancement within the occupation, such as
promotion to a management position; or advancement into other occupations. Once you start to
advance in your field you start to gain more and more responsibility. Some may also advance
certification.
You work in pleasant and comfortable offices. This is one of the few health-related
occupations in which there is no direct hands-on patient care. Depending on what you are doing
for the day you may have to be able it sit or stand for a certain amount of hours. You usually
work a typical 40-hour week, but some overtime may be required. In health facilities that are
open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, technicians may work day, evening, and night shifts. In
your job you may have to opportunity to work either part-time or full-time hours, there may be
