Proposed Effluent Treatment Plant will treat 450,000 liters per day waste water by
Physical, Chemical and Biological process.
Scheme for biological treatment is anaerobic treatment followed by aerobic treatment.
SECTION -II
2.0.
I)
II)
PROCESS DESIGN
The process design involves Physical, Chemical and Biological processes.
PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROCESS
Screening, Collection, Equalization, Neutralization, Clarification, Drying.
BIOLOGICAL PROCESS
Converting organic pollutant into harmless by-products with the help of Anaerobic and
Aerobic Microorganisms.
Flow sheet is enclosed for ready reference.
PROPOSED TREATMENT PROCESS SCHEME
Effluent coming from the factory shall be first screened through bar screen chamber.
Over from screen chamber collected in Oil & Scum removal tank. Mechanically Oil &
Scum shall be scraped from Oil & Scum removal tank. By gravity effluent over flow is
collected in Collection cum Equalisation Tank. Floating mixer shall be provided at
equalisation tank for mixing of effluents. From this unit effluent is transferred to Buffer
tank by pump. At Buffer tank suitable chemical solutions are added to neutralise the
effluent. From buffer tank effluent is sent to UASB by pumping. At buffer tank floating
mixer shall be provided for mixing.
BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT
UASB SYSTEM
From buffer tank effluent shall be pumped to Up flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Digester
(UASB). Major part of organic load shall be removed here. The anaerobic organisms will
degrade the high concentrated organic matter present in the effluent. In this digester
bacterial granules will be formed which is used as a medium for attachment of
microorganisms, which will in turn convert the complex organic matter into simple
compounds like methane gas, CO2 & H2O. On top of the digester-Gas Liquid Solid
separation system shall be provided.
Gas separately collected in Gas Holder and send to Boiler as a fuel. Excess gas will be
flared with Gas flare system. Necessary safety devises and instrumentation shall be
provided for UASB reactor. The overflow from UASB is sent to the Bio- tower-I.
BIO- TOWERS
Bio tower-I, II have designed as a roughening tower for organic matter reduction from
the influent. Bio tower is constructed with civil columns and beam supports. Bio tower
is filled with PVC structured Bio fill media. The overflow effluent from the UASB, is fed
to the top of the bio tower-I by gravity. At bio tower-I recirculation pumps are
provided to recirculate the effluent from bottom sump to top of the tower to maintain
the surface overflow rate required for the media. The media attached micro-organisms
will degrade the organic matter as BOD in the effluent. One part of the effluent from
recycling feed line is collected at the top of the Bio tower-II. Recycling pumps are also
provided at BT-II for recirculation and also transfer effluent to next unit i.e., Aeration
Tank. Excess biomass on the Bio-tower plastic media is automatically removed due to
the recirculation flow.
ASP SYSTEM
Activated Sludge Process comprises of Aeration tank followed by Secondary Clarifier,
which are, proposed to meet the requirements. In aeration tank organic load as BOD will
be degraded with the help of cultivated microbial culture. Constant Mixed Liquor
Suspended Solids (MLSS) will be maintained in aeration tank in definite proportions by
recycling the bio sludge trapped by the secondary clarifier. At aeration tank air is
supplied from air blower to supply oxygen for the microorganisms.
