ABSTRACT
Title: FACTORS AFFECTING BSED 1ES PREFERENCE OF EDUCATION
COURSE IN POLSNGUI COMMUNITY CLLEGE.
This study aimed to determine the factors affecting
Bsed 1es preference of education course in Polangui
Community College. Specifically it sought to answer the
following questions: 1) what is the profile of 1-E students
taking up Education Course in terms of sex, age, field of
interest and occupation of the parents? 2) what factors
affect the students preferences in taking up education
course? 3) what are the implications of taking education
course to the Polangui Community College?
The descriptive survey method of research was utilized
in this study to identify the factors affecting the
preferences of students in taking up education course and
give actins to the problem. The data are collected by
administering a survey questionnaire to the respondents to
identify and fill in the needed information. The data
gathered were treated using frequency count and percentile
technique to define the number and socio-economic factors of
the students.
From the conduct of the data gathering, the researcher
found out that; socio-economic factors have an influence in
choosing their course in Polangui Community College.

CHAPTER 1
The Problem

Introduction
Education serves man the effective continuation of his
own living. As a process, education signifies activity as a
product, education directs the individual towards learning.
It deals with the growth in his capacity to cope with his
environment and as a course, education is an aggregate of
all processes by which a person develops his abilities and
attitudes. Every individual desires to finish a career to
have successful life.
Education is the key that open doors to arrange of
possibilities for advancement, for the benefit of both the
individual and the country.
Education

is

one

of

the

courses

offered

in

the

community and one of its primary concern is to maintain

quality standards to produce quality education graduates.
The progress of our country greatly depends upon the kind of
its citizenry. An educated citizenry contributes a lot to

the progress of ones nation is in the hands of the teachers

who are directly responsible in education.
The teaching profession is great. It is the profession
where the progress of ones nation depends. The failure or
success of a nation is fully dependent upon the quality of
education of its citizen. It is for this reason that the
researcher was motivated to investigate the reason why the
Bachelor

students

of

Polangui

Community College choose to take up Education Course.

Every day we make decisions, whether big or small and
these decisions can make huge impacts in our lives. As the
person progresses, his or her ability to decide improve,
allowing the individual to make better and wiser decision in
life. Failure to make the right decision often leads to
downfall. Deciding on what course to take is not a gut
reaction. It requires mature and serious discussion, and
may not, despite the long run, lead to initial choice.
However during this crucial stage in each students life,
there are some factors in which results to confusion, and
further lead to a mistake.
Some parents think that what they suggest to their
children in what course to pursue is better, yet they tend
to ignore what their children desire. Other factors include:

sociological

factors

and

economic

factors.

On

the

other

hand, other pursue education course because it is their

desired course with no doubt, and they were able to graduate
with high spirits.
One of the suggested elucidations is for the parents to
talk with their children. Then its up to the child whether
they will agree or not. Other solution letting the child
decide

on

their

own.

Deciding

the

individual to develop and progress in life.

the individual success or failure in chosen career.
The

approach

encompasses

the

socio-economic

factors

that create a major impact in the career development of a

person. This is great influence by 1.) the environment which

includes community, its opportunities to deal with option
and decision, the influence of the economy and the meaning
of work in society, 2.)the situational circumstances of a
person influence by occupation and economic status of the
family, education of parents and family stability, 3.) the
knowledge available which refers to the school environment
where person develop skill, gain knowledge services that
cater to their future career choices and opportunities, 4.)
the reinforcement of the specific career related behavior
providing them the opportunities to broaden their horizon
through structural career exploration group and labor market
information.

In this connection the students training incorporates

life situation by addressing socio-economic problems which

Review of Related Literature and Studies

This chapter presents the review of related literature

of

this

study.
Related Literature
Lardizabal believed (1988) Education is change for the
better. Man may learn many things, but if these things do
not change him into a better person then he has not acquired
education. The goal of education then is to change man to be
better

mentally,

physically,

socially,

morally

and

spiritually.
If progress is being made toward the satisfaction of
ones needs, an individual is motivated by exerting efforts
in

the

expansion

of

of

ones

potential; hence, one shows a high academic performance in

school

work.

When

he

meets

he

feels

competent to and satisfied and dissatisfied if he fails to

meet his goal. When an individuals become convinced that

their efforts will lead to a high academic performance,

their motivation increases.
Based

from

the

results

of

on

career

development. Briefly, the data revealed the following:

1.)

Most had discussed future plans, twice as often

with parents as with counselors; 2.) only 2 percent are

school

and

academic

areas

[useful for a job; 3.)

activities

that

would

be

most recognized that at least

one course taken in high school might be useful on a

job; 4.) nearly all had thought about the job they
would like to hold in the future; 5.) when identifying
important elements of a letter for a job, most failed
to include educational and training qualifications.

of

to

However this earlier studies focused on traditional
survey criteria (family-background, content of studies
and salary, etc.) The result of the factor analysis
indicates six different patterns for career choices:
1.) interest in the content of the study and future
work, 2.) interest in future work career, salary and

Peer is one factor that influences an individual to
pursue a career. The achievement of student is related in
peer evaluation. In such demonstration it shows that the
students who are highly accepted by their peer are more
successful in performance and in class achievement.

Research Method
The descriptive survey method of research was utilized
in this study. The questionnaire was the main gathering
instrument used in the frequency count and percentage in the
analysis of data gathered.

respondents

which

consist

of

Polangui Community College in the school year 2015-2016.

Data Gathering Procedure
The data were gathered with the use of questionnaire.
The questionnaire were personally distributed to the BSED 1E and immediately retrieved. The data were tallied, and
interpreted to determine the factors that affect the BSED 1E students in Polangui Community College in choosing the
Education Course.
Instrumentation
The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire,
which was constructed guided by reviewed literature and
studies. It is composed of two parts where Part 1 was design
to investigate of the students in terms of sex, age, field
of interest and occupation of parents. Part II investigated

various factors that affect their preferences of education

in their college course.
Statistical treatment
The statistical tools, which used in this research
works, were frequency count and percentage. The percentage
was computed by dividing the number of responses in each
level by the total number of respondents.
