BIBLE CORRESPOHDEMCE. CHURCH PLAHTIM6. KIHDERGARTEK, AO-VAN GEL ISM, RADIO, CAMPOS EVANGELISM

Dear Co-Workers,

Vol. 14: No. 2 May, 1971

Spring has arrived and as anticipated we've enjoyed

the beauty of cherry and plum blossoms and camellia.
During the month of May we see the colorful azaleas

HAPPY

GROUP

which resemble the rhododendrons. Delicious straw

berries as large as plums all laid neatly in rows in

a quart sized-box are marked 300 yen {80(/:).
Besides the miracles of nature we are also witness

ing miracles of the Holy Spirit performed through the

power of the Word in the lives of God's children. Our

doorbell rang at 7:30 one Sunday morning recently. I

thought, ''These diligent Bible School children are
coming earlier all the time!'
' However, it was Katsumi
Omura, the young man baptized in February. Several
weeks before he became a Christian plans had been
made for him to go out of town. He came to pray and
partake of the Lord's Supper before he left.
A recent overnight guest was Keiko Ishikawa, who
became a Christian in February, too. After graduation
from Keisen Jr. College she became a secretary in the
office of a member of the Upper House of the Diet.
She huligers for Christian fellowship. It seemsto-her
that all those around her at work think only of money.

''Today, if you are not as close to God as you once

were, who moved? God didn't!'
' This question was asked
by David Smith when he preached here. David and Sylvia
are spending a missionary internship in Japan with us
for about six months.

CHRISTIAN

STANDARD

CLIPPING

Mary's roomate this year is Sarah Burney, a fresh

man at the Christian Academy and daughter of Mr. &

Mrs. Don Burney who serve on Shikoku and publish the
Japan Reporter. We're grateful that the Andrew Pattons

SARAH

BURNEY

allowed us to live in their house this past year so

that Sarah and Mary could commute every day.
The Standard clipping at the right is not just mere
statistic to us. It tells us of the baptism of our

sister-in-law, Rosemary Pratt Farr and her two daugh

ters Susie and Cindy. We give thanks to God for lead

ing them.

Mary Joyce is busy with the usual senior year act

ivities including the spring play. High School grad
uation is June 18th. She and two of her classmates

will be bridesmaids for their older brothers and all

three weddings are on the same day, June 26th. This

fall Mary will enter The Cincinnati Bible Seminary.
Last week Mary went with the C.A.J. Choir to the

Zama Base Chapel and hospital. Meeting these injured

servicemen from Vietnam causes us to pray for peace

in that country and for these men who have already

sacrificed so much of life. We know that ''All things
work together for good to them that love God,'
' but
what about those who don't love'Him?

One of the most important men in Japan, to us, is our mailman. Every day we listen for
the sound of the squeaky brakes on his bicycle. Sometimes we are disappointed, but often
we receive just the letter we need to inspire us for the day, week or month. Be sure

that your unceasing prayers and continued support are invigorating to us.
A recent letter from Lydia was reassuring. She wrote, ''It's thrilling to hear
of your endeavors for Christ in the land I love. Even though I miss you very much,
God has given me happiness and duties to fulfill here.'' She and Mark are singing
in the Seminary musical ''Natural High'' written by Ralph Carmichael. Mark is happy
in his new task as Youth Minister at the Montgomery Road Church, Cincinnati. MARK

and LYNN LUSBY of Wi I i iamstown, Kentucky have set thei r WEDDING DATE at JULY 9,
1971 . We met and learned to love Lynn when she came with the Ohio Singers.
Paul David questions, ''Why do we divide the body of Christ?'' (quoting 1 Cor.
1:10-16) ''The center of our lives is not any form of manmade sect of Christiany,
but the center of our lives is JESUS CHRIST the HEAD. ''As Christians,'
' Guided by
the Holy Spirit, and inspired by the person of Jesus Christ, ^.ill we not concern
ourselves with proclaiming the WORD, JESUS CHRIST, instead o t interdenominational
bickering.'
'

Did you read Sam Stone's article, ''Ohayo Shingazu'' in the January 24th. , 1971
issue of the Christian Standard? Your prayers and gifts made this tremendous evang
elistic effort possible. Bill Miller from Patterson, APE, Dayton, Ohio recomends
that we ''send more groups like this one to the mission fields.'
' Personally, we
would like to see more groups come to Japan if they come with the same purpose and
zeal as the ''Ohayo Shingazu.'
'
''DON'T FORGET ASIA! Now more than ever, the Orient needs Christ. . .'
' (Kenneth
A. Stewart, CHRISTIAN STANDARD, February 14, 1971, page 11) I'm sure you remember
the parable of the one lost sheep (Matt. 18:12-14). If one sheep were one of your
loved ones, how much time, effort and money should be spent to find that one who
is lost? It is not the will of the FATHER that one of these should perish.
I've been saving money from teaching English so that Paul and I can return State

side for the two weddings this summer. We three will leave from Haneda Airport on
June 21st and just the two of us will return to Japan on August 31st. Shin Kubono
of Osaka Bible Seminary nill assist at Isahara in our absence.
