ROAR!

Have you ever been to a forum that is infused with an ambiance of a friday-night-club?
The diversified world of accountancy has been materialized last 28 th of November 2015 at the
SC Auditorium hosted by Mary Joy Tamayo (JPIA-Letran) in partnership with Andr Desideratus
Dingle (JPIA-AdU). With the theme ROAR: Seize the Blast of the Diversified World of
Accountancy, the academic conference emerged as to have its disparate style on running the
said event.
The first speaker was Mr. Mark Joseph T. Fernandez, CPA, a graduate of BS
Accountancy in Silliman University while being a working student for 4 years. Aside from being a
Certified Public Accountant, he was also conferred with the title Registered Financial Consultant
(RFC) by the International Association of Registered Financial Consultants and Accredited
Financial Analyst (AFA) by the American Academy of Financial Management.
With his compelling words that inspired several attendees, a single quote with significant
impact was left to them Everyone has their purpose in life. You just have to know whats
yours and pursue it. Knowing our purpose in life would lead us to a decent path where our
goals are to be fulfilled without traversing another path.
As to the next speaker, Mr. Arnie Victus D. Alvarado, CPA was a graduate of BS
Accountancy as magna cum laude in Holy Angel University, Pampanga. He became VP for
Academics then later became the President of JPIA in his alma mater. He currently works as an
Audit In-charge at P&A Grant Thornton Audit and Assurance Division.
He introduced the four steps in achieving a balanced accountancy student's life. DCPA
was the acronym to recall this cycle. D stands for Dream lofty dream; we have to have dreams
that will excite us to see and live our future. This will guide us to move forward and push
ourselves to the fullest potential. C stands for Create specific, clear and uplifting goals; it must
be geared toward achieving our dreams in time of short-term (outstanding grades, active
member of JPIA, hang-out with friends) and long-term (successful CPA, work at private firms,
long-lasting relationship with friends). P stands for Perform concrete steps to achieve goals;
time management is the most potent key to have this started. Making a calendar of activities in
a week / month would be the best way to provide an ample time for such priorities. We have to
know our priorities and response to those things that need our immediate attention. The last
step, A stands for Accomplish your goals and reward yourself; success is counted sweetest
when you achieve it out of perseverance, determination and great effort. We must celebrate
after achieving our goals so we are motivated to set and achieve other goals. Applying these

four steps would definitely lead us to an organized, well-timed, and purposeful accomplishment
towards to success.
On to the next speaker for the afternoon session, he is a Certified Public Accountant and
a graduate of Basic Management Program in Asian Institute of Management. He is the treasurer
and one of the members of the Board of Directors of BAIPhil. He has been a resource speaker
of BAIPhil on Corporate Governance, Banking Regulations, IFRS AND Taxation. He is Sir Dom
Gavino, CPA who is currently the CFO of ING Bank Manila. Immediately, he is followed by the
next speaker from SGV, Mr. Caiga, regarding the same subject matter.
And for the last set of speakers from R.G. Manabat & Co., one of them was a cum laude
graduate from Far Eastern University. She is Ms. Mary Ischyrine A. Opea, CPA. She is a
committed Certified Public Accountant with almost four years of meaningful experience in audit
practice of various industries engaged in the business of financial services, shared services,
and not-for-profit organization. She is currently the assistant manager of audit financial services
at R.G. Manabat & Co. The other speaker was a graduate of BS Accountancy with Academic
Distinction from De La Salle Lipa. She has three years meaningful experience specializing on
the audits of financial service institutions and comprehensive knowledge and hands-on
experience on the key processes of banks, both domestic and foreign.
Their discussion focused on how CPAs party and socialize. Of course, being an
accountant is no piece of cake. Working inside the firm all day would also be counted as your
leisure time. Accountants must be open to anyone and feel free to communicate in order for
them to reach out their thoughts.
Provided that we have priorities in terms of being a successful accountancy student, we
must enjoy and live a happy life through the good times and the bad. No one knows what our
future will be but I think its going to be up to us. We must work smarter, not harder.
