Abstract The prototype of the

research entitled, Monitoring System of
Hydroelectric Power Harvester for
Riveride Lamp Posts has two parts
namely: the improvised hydroelectric
power harvester and the monitoring
system. It generates kinetic energy
present in the river flow known as
hydroelectricity. The materials used in the
project prototype are improvised bicycle
sprockets and chain, direct current
generator, and stainless fan blades which
serve as turbines, generator, motor and
propellers. On the other hand, the
monitoring system is made possible
through the utilization of voltage and
current sensor circuits and hardware
components such as Aceduino Mega,
Global System for Mobile communication
(GSM) module, and a 20x4 Liquid
Crystal Display (LCD). Aceduino Mega is
a microcontroller that is programmed in
C language to determine the voltage,
power, and current output of the battery,
the charge level and the remaining time to
charge the battery presented in a small
screen through a Liquid Crystal Display
(LCD). GSM is used to transmit the
batterys charge amount percentage,
estimated current time (ECT), charge
current, and its estimated energy (EE)
dissipation. These data go directly to the
users mobile phone through Short
Messaging Service (SMS). However, the
batterys stored voltage output by the
system was identified to have a 6%
marginal error compared to the manual
data gathered by a voltmeter. The
difference in monitoring was present due
to noise or jitters that produced unwanted
voltages in the sensors but have been
resolved by the researchers by a coupling
capacitor. Overall, aside from the outputs
on the LCD screen and the SMS
notification, the project prototype
successfully lighted three pieces of 12
VDC bulbs.

INTRODUCTION

Renewable energy are obtained

from resources that are available for a long
period of time and do not easily deplete,
when it comes to the supply, because it is
continuously replenished over a period of
time. Some examples of these resources are
the sun, wind, water, and the Earths heat.
Most renewable energy comes either
directly or indirectly from the sun. Ref. [1]
Solar energy or the suns radiance is
harvested by solar panels, which are then
used to provide electricity in homes. The
suns heat also drives the winds, which the
energy is captured by wind turbines. The
heat from the sun and the wind then causes
the water to evaporate until such time that it
will rain and the water flows downhill. The
energy that comes from the force of the
water flowing is captured by the
hydroelectric machines. Ref. [2] Sunlight
causes trees and plants to grow, so when
these plants die, they become biomass.
Hydroelectric energy is another term
for power generated by harnessing the
power of moving water, not necessarily
falling water, just moving water. Ref. [3]
The concept had been in use for thousands
by ancient civilizations. The Romans created
