Advantages and Disadvantages of Adventure Sports (11-18-2015)

Advantages and Disadvantages of Adventure Sports

'Its not for the faint hearted' - You must have come across these words in many television and reality shows.
Another area which proudly hosts this tagline is the adventure sports or sometimes we call it extreme sports. It is
something we dont normally do every day. Did you swim with the dolphins? Or gone scuba-diving or deep sea
diving? Or been sailing? Have you ridden on an elephant or a camel? Or been sky diving? All these and many
more things form the adventure sports. They seem really very exciting and fascinating. But how exciting they
remain when we fall in the other lot? The lot in which sports like sky diving, bungee jumping from a cliff, etc. evoke
fear.
Advantages of extreme sports
1. It keeps us extremely fit. It helps to burn calories and keeps the blood flowing. It stretches the limits of our body
little by little thus helping us become stronger.
2. It is a great way of having fun. Just like any other sport, it relaxes one's mind and rejuvenates it.
3. It provides us with new experiences. It gives an opportunity to live life to the fullest and to escape from everyday
routine. It gives some thrill to life and these experiences become great memories to cherish during the routine life.
4. It also gives a sense of achievement.
5. It helps build confidence and motivation. This in turn helps people to take risks in their work where sometimes
when needed, people are too timid to take a risk or hard decision.
6. They help get rid of monotonous life as well as frustration, stress, bad emotions, etc.
7. It also helps overcome fear and builds strength - physical and mental, endurance, will-power, responsibility, etc.
8. Added to this, many of the extreme sports are outdoor activities and help us get in touch with nature.
Disadvantages of extreme sports
1. They are very dangerous.

2. It is like putting your life in unnecessary danger just for recreational purpose.
3. There is a very high possibility of injuries even with the safety precautions. Many even die trying and performing
these feats. It is straining the body out of the comfort zone and may not go down well if the body is not prepared
for such heavy workout or one is not a regular practitioner of adventure sports.
4. Also, sometimes a person may not realize the fragility of one's health and may get into trouble. He or she might
think they are fit but such adventure sports increase heart rate, give an adrenaline boost, etc. which can cause
even heart attacks. So there is no way to determine accurately whether a person is fit for these sports or not.
5. These sports can be traumatic too.
6. Also if a person is unable to perform satisfactorily in such sports, it can dent the confidence as many see these
sports as a proof of guts, daring and many a times masculinity.
7. Equipment or gears needed may be very expensive. Also the gear and equipment are mostly for safety
purposes. So safety is costly in such sports.
8. Some might get into trouble with law. E.g. Extreme sports athletes also are commonly prosecuted for defacing
property and trespassing as in skateboarders, BMX riders, etc.
9. Also family, relatives and friends worry about us and our safety. So choosing such a sport takes a toll on them
too. They live in fear of our safety.
10. For some sports, to enjoy them in a better manner one needs to train properly. In such a hectic schedule and
fast paced life it is difficult to find time for such things.
Like two sides of a coin, extreme sports come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. Many a times
the disadvantages outnumber the advantages. They are not compulsory. It is voluntary to be a part of them. But
one needs to understand that these extreme sports are mostly meant as a break from life and not something to be
included in your regular life. If they are to be included in a regular life, then no person can go far without proper
training and equipment. Its up to us to decide what we need to do, how cautious we must be and what limits we
must follow. Proper precautions and training can help us enjoy the sports to the fullest.
RE: Advantages and Disadvantages of Adventure Sports Deepa Kaushik (11-18-2015)
Adventure sports are good when remembered as a lifetime experience. It is a way out of the routine life of
orderliness. A relaxed and whole-hearted attempt to open-up our pores with the nature would be definitely joyous.
These adventure sports makes us more close to the nature.
It is true that encountering a risk for life in a joyful mode would make us more daring and reckless when it comes
to our decisive power in odd times of life. But the question remains valid whether it is all necessary to risk life for a

sportyt event.
People, especially youth showcase this as a projection of their guts and open thoughts. The same youth finds the
adventure sport irrelevant for their children when they reach their adulthood or old age. Rather than calling
advantage and dis-advantage, the better way to analyse the same would be in terms of its requirement.
Every action should have certain limitations. Moving out of boundaries doesn't mean to go out of all bondings. the
adventure sports do good in terms of physicl, mental or emotional fitness only if the same is performed within
restricted limits.
Adventure sports also carry safety and security parameter, in fact to a very high extent than any other sport. This
is one reason why the equipments cost more for the adventure sports. Just calling out of boundaries does not
mean we avoid the security measures. Without proper safety, these adventure sports are equivalent to suicide.
Adventure sports are only for those who are apparantly healthy. These sports are definitely full of danger. It is
acceptable that we cannot predict life and we never know what would happen to us the next moment. But an
adventure sport is like trying out our fate for life, which could be avoided. Yet, no two individuals are same. People
have their own flavour for life to live and enjoy life their own way. It would be better if such adventure loving people
do these activities within the permissible limits.
RE: Advantages and Disadvantages of Adventure Sports pawan upadhyay (11-18-2015)
adventure sports are those sports which go beyond the limit of the people physic strength that's why it need
practice and hard work to do it.
the basic requirement of adventure sports is that you should have proper training and necessary equipment to do
it. yes it is true that adventure sport increase our confident, motivation , maintains us extrem level of healthy.
we have seen people who do adventure sport are always ready to accept new challenge in their life.
the another factor is the some think that if i do like this my confident , motivation levels will increase. they don't
know how to perform these sport and also not have proper equipment and they go for it.
so if anyone want to perform adventure sport they should go for training and also go for medical check that he or
she can perform that activity.
so according to me there are advantage is that it will new experience in our life and it will increase sense of
experience nature in good way.

Extreme sports: advantages and disadvantages

Some people think that extreme sports help to build character.

Sport is the best and the shortest way to health. Today increasing number of people is involved in
activities that help them to enjoy life and to build character. As a rule, these activities are extreme sports.
To my mind, it is true.
Firstly, I believe that such thrilling activities as sky surfing or bungee jumping help people to overcome
their fears of taking risks and to build character. Secondly, extreme sports help people to relax because
they are usually safe and well organized by trained instructors. Participants have to wear correct clothing,
check their equipment and be trained before they are allowed to participate in an extreme sport like sky
surfing. Furthermore, sportmen obtain new feelings and emotions, enjoing extreme sports.
Oh the other hand, opponents of extreme spots say that extreme sportmen have useless and very risky
occupation. If a rope tears while bungee jumping, for example, a participant will be seriously injured or
even die. So it is a very dangerous sport. Also, family relations may be damaged because of this kind of
hobby. Extreme sportman is usually addicted to his or her occupation. However, I believe that this
activities are very exciting and thrilling. As I mentioned before, risk is not very high, because organizers of
extreme sports follow safety insructions very seriously.
To sum up, I want to say people have an opportunity to take part in risky sport, or not. It is their own right
to choose.

The thrill of extreme sports draws in many who are looking for a little excitement. Snowboarding,
surfing, skateboarding, free running and other extreme sports offer the freedom of physically and
psychologically challenging yourself to perform feats that may make other athletes queasy. But many
extreme sports have an element of danger beyond the risks associated with traditional sports. It is
important to consider both the advantages and disadvantages of the extreme sport of your interest.

The Rush
Many who participate in extreme sports claim they do it for the rush -- adrenaline rush, that is. Being in
a dangerous situation triggers a release of adrenaline as a part of the fight or flight response, naturally
intended to keep you out of harm's way. The adrenaline rush is marked by an elevated heart rate,
dilated pupils and a change in breathing patterns. This surge of adrenaline is also accompanied by a
release of endorphins and dopamine, which are associated with feelings of euphoria and pleasure.
Those who participate in extreme sports chase this feeling, which they believe makes the sport more
fun, and see this pleasure response as an advantage of participating in the activity.

Fun Plus Fitness

Extreme sports also provide an intense workout. Many extreme sports require you to use your full
body, and as a result, can exercise multiple muscle groups at once. Extreme sports also push your
body's limits, so they can help you burn calories and lose weight. For example, skateboarding for an
hour can burn up to 500 calories while also improving your balance, flexibility, endurance and muscle
strength. Because extreme sports are exciting, they are an easy way to get in a workout without
feeling the dread of going to the gym.

Although thrill-seekers crave the danger associated with extreme sports, the risk of injury is profound.
It can be argued that injury is a possibility when participating in any sport. But the heights, distances
and speeds that come with extreme sports drastically increase the severity of injuries that can be
incurred. Those who participate in these types of activities risk broken bones, head trauma and even
death. According to the United States Parachuting Association, about 21 people die every year from
skydiving. Although this equates to a relatively low chance of death, it is still higher than other
traditional sports.

Tickets and Trouble

Many extreme sports have been widely accepted and have designated venues for athletes to hone
their skills and compete. This is the case with the X Games as well as the Olympic sports of skiing,
bobsledding, snowboarding and others. But those who use public areas or private property as their
field of play can get into trouble with the law. Skateboarders often risk getting tickets when performing
stunts in parking lots or are asked to leave when skateboarding at parks and schools. Free runners can
also get into trouble with business owners and police officers for jumping off of buildings, ledges and
hand rails. For some, the thrill is not worth the trouble.

While some athletes prefer the structure of organized sports, others opt for the freedom of extreme sports. Extreme
sports include a multitude of activities, including skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing and BMX. When choosing an
extreme sport to get involved with, you'll first need to consider the advantages and disadvantages associated with the
specific riding discipline.

Camaraderie
Just because extreme sports athletes are not part of an organized team doesn't mean they can't make lasting connections with
fellow riders. Getting involved with an extreme sport is a great way to meet friends who share similar interests. Many
skateboarders, snowboarders and BMXers alike band together to create their own clubs and groups. Riding with your new-found
friends will allow you to progress in your riding skills while learning new and more difficult tricks and maneuvers.

Exercise
Getting involved with an extreme sport is a great way to have fun while maintaining a healthy body weight. Regardless of the
extreme sport you participate in, with regular riding practices you'll be able to burn excess calories and tone a multitude of
muscles. Performing aerial jumps on a BMX bike will allow you to strengthen your bicep and triceps. Riding your snowboard
down a mountain slope will target your quadriceps and lower leg muscles.

Injuries
While every sport has certain dangers, extreme sports athletes are at an increased risk of serious injuries. Back-country
snowboarders are known for riding on an unpredictable terrain where avalanches are commonplace. While these off-piste riders
don't ride on a groomed slope, hazards such as large boulders and fallen trees can be easily hidden under large deposits of newly
fallen snow. Even the smallest misstep can plummet big wave surfers more than 30 feet below the breaking ocean waves.
According to "Thrasher Magazine," skateboarders often subject themselves to bone-crunching falls while attempting to grind
down steep handrails.

Tickets
While many extreme sports athletes have designated training facilities to master their craft, others prefer to take a more
adventurous approach. Street riding is a prominent discipline among skateboarders, snowboarders and BMX riders alike. Street
riding often takes place on urban obstacles, including stairs and handrails. A major disadvantage of street riding is that most of

the spots are private property. According to Transworld Skateboarding, skaters often get tickets for street riding that entail a
costly fine. Extreme sports athletes also are commonly prosecuted for defacing property and trespassing.
