Dear Friends,

”Arise, Awake and Stop Not till the goal is reached!” - Swami Vivekananda's
words have been the inspiration for AWAKE's pioneering efforts in “Women
Entrepreneurship”. AWAKE vision is to empower women through economic development. In
the last 25 years AWAKE has worked untiringly to make a difference in many a women's lives
towards economic independence. To commemorate the Silver Jubilee AWAKE is conducting
an International Summit, Expo and B2B to highlight the “ROLE AND CONTRIBUTION OF
WOMEN TO GLOBAL ECONOMY” from 28th May to 2nd June 2008 at Bangalore, India. It is
my privilege to invite each one of you on behalf of AWAKENERS to this event.

Women Power has become a force to reckon with world over. Developing countries have
made remarkable social progress through the empowerment of women, which has had
enormous impact in terms of social standing, literacy, health and economic well being of
families. The self esteem and self confidence of the Girl Child is remarkably evident and she
is aware of her role in society.

There is hope for the future as Global trends indicate that women have been contributing
substantially to the growing global economy, but mainly through the informal sector. The
Summit, Expo and B2B will show case opportunity for better value addition. This forum will
be a great opportunity to highlight, share and debate on the fact that women are equal
partners not only at home but also an integral part of nation building.

Government of India and Government of Karnataka are partnering AWAKE in this celebration.

Role & Contribution of Women to Global Economy

lobalization is the process of networking and establishing relationship with the whole world by
sharing information, technology, knowledge, resources, wealth and extension of services without
barriers. Increased Globalization has shown massive economic changes, social changes and
improved the conditions of nations. The driving force especially in developing countries behind this
economic and societal growth is found to be “Women Power”. From time immemorial Women have been
ambassadors of peace, guardians of tradition and society, champions of art and culture, leaders in
economic management and administration and instruments of beauty and literature. Till recently most
of the countries did not recognize the contributions made by women either to economic sector or in the
shaping of the vast human resources or in safeguarding natural resources. The emphasis today is on
future leaders who will "change lives, change organizations, and change the world for better." There is a
need to recognize the women workforce, provide a platform for sharing their knowledge and celebrate
their achievements.
Women are the architects
of human society.
Social organizations like AWAKE that promote women's development are pioneer in bringing about
transformation in society. AWAKE is hence planning this theme “Role and Contribution of Women to
Global Economy“.

Association of women entrepreneurs of Karnataka
(AWAKE) was founded by seven dedicated, successful
women entrepreneurs' in1983 with the mission of
empowering women through entrepreneurship develop-
ment for economic self reliance, and thereby empower
them to join the mainstream economy. AWAKE is a
Not- for profit NGO and an ISO 9001-2000, accredited
voluntary organization.
AWAKE's Vision, is to work as a team towards a shared
objective to reach greater number of women and
