OK here's how to properly leave the church and make sure it happens on your own terms.

Remember, I am not giving legal advice. I am just telling you what I did and sharing my resignation letter
with you. Feel free to copy the following letter and edit in your personal info. Send it to the address
provided and within about 3 weeks you will get a response in the mail from the church acknowledging
your resignation and confirming that your records have been removed from the church rolls. The
verbage in this letter protects your legal rights in many important ways and is practically ironclad legally.
Feel free to have it reviewed by your attorney if you like. Give it a try and get your life back!

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is to serve as my formal letter of resignation from the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latterday Saints. I hereby terminate, effective immediately, any consent to be treated as a member of
the LDS Church or to submit to the LDS Church's beliefs, control or disciplinary procedures. If you
attempt to contact me in any way, except via written confirmation of (1) receipt of this letter, (2)
completion of the internal LDS Church procedures required to remove my name from your membership
rolls and (3) handling of my requests with respect to records (as described below), I will take whatever
legal action is necessary to enjoin such contact.
This resignation also includes the resignations of the following individuals:
Myself, ***********. born **/**/**** Record Number: ***** My wife ******** born
**/**/**** Record Number: *****, My daughter ********** born **/**/****, My son **********.
born **/**/****, My son *********** born **/**/**** (inaccurately listed as **/**/**** in church
records)
My full resignation and those of my immediate family (listed above) from the LDS Church is
given of my own free will and by my order shall not be subject to the approval or disapproval of any
church leader or member, nor shall It be subject to the condition that the Bishop or any so-called church
authority provide effective counsel to me as to the revocation of the effects of baptism, the withdrawal
of the priesthood, or the suspension of temple sealings and blessings as specified in the General
Handbook of Instructions, 1989 Edition, chapter eight, page four {or any relevant successor procedures).
While these instructions make it clear that the church may have some sick desire to slap me in the face

on my way out the door, I refuse to be held party to any such condition of my resignation. The church
simply cannot revoke that which never existed. Further I refuse to accept shame, fear or guilt in
connection with my departure. That would constitute very un-Christ like and shameful behavior on your
part. My formal resignation is final and is in no way dependent on any such counseling.
I ask you to promptly complete the form "Request for Administrative Action" (or any successor
form currently in use) and forward it to the appropriate party. You are required to send me a letter
informing me that you have done so. I understand that there is normally a 30-day waiting period before
the Stake President submits the Form to the Office of the First Presidency of the LDS Church, however, I
hereby demand such waiting period be waived. There shall be no reason to delay my withdrawal as I
shall not be persuaded to change my mind. Any attempt to delay this matter will simply serve as a
reflection of the Church's desire to behave in a spiteful or harmful manner towards those who no longer
share its Views or refuse to submit to its control. This type of delay may reflect poorly on the Church's
image of conducting itself in a Christ-like manner and could legally be construed as a form of
harassment. Therefore, you should instruct the Stake President to submit the form without delay. I
understand that the Stake President will then forward this letter and the form to the Office of the First
Presidency, however, my resignation is effective as of the date of this Letter without regard to any
internal LDS Church procedures that the LDS Church may require in order to formally "remove my
name" from the LDS Church's records. Such Internal procedures are matters of internal record keeping
only and are not my concern. Any delay in such procedures will have no impact whatsoever on the
effectiveness of my resignation.
I consider baptism and all other LDS Church proceedings involving my children to have been
conducted without their lawful consent, as they had not reached the legal age of maturity at the time
such proceedings occurred. Such proceedings were void "ab initio". Please disregard all such
proceedings and either (a) destroy all original records and copies thereof evidencing such proceedings,
or (b) send the original records to me at the address below and destroy all copies thereof.
Any and all other LDS Church records relating to me, my wife ********, or my children *******,
*******, and **********in any way, wherever maintained, should be handled in like manner. Do not
merely relocate my records or code them as "inactive" or store them in a similar manner. I realize that
my demands with respect to my records may fall outside of the LDS Church's ordinary procedures,

however, I am hopeful that due to the LDS Church's desire to avoid negative publicity and costly
litigation, you will fulfill these requests promptly and in accordance with these instructions.
Once again, you are not to attempt to contact me except in writing and in accordance with the
instructions in this Letter. Any other effort by you, LDS Church members acting under your instruction or
the instruction of other LDS Church officials, LDS Church missionaries or other LDS Church officials to
contact me may result in legal action or notification of media outlets. Your written communication to me
confirming that you have received my resignation should indicate that I have resigned from the LDS
Church effective 11/05/2015 and such communication shall not contain such verbiage as
"excommunicate", "disfellowship", "expel" or any similar negative terminology implying there should be
any kind of negative consequences as a result of my resignation. Do not attempt to obtain my
participation in any LDS Church court, disciplinary proceeding or other formal hearing, as I will not so
participate.
Signed,
*************
