A. General Condition of The Ship

1) The ship should be as complete to light ship condition as possible with a detail record (weight, V.C.G. &
L.C.G.) of minimal unfitted outfit and equipment remaining to be placed on board, removed or relocated.
2) All hinged, swinging and movable items must be secured in their normal position.
3) The ship should be clean and free of construction debris and scrap. All shipyard gear, equipment and tools
should be removed.
4) All tanks are to be as empty as possible, bilges must be dry and deck should be free of liquids. The
condition of all tanks and bilges should be bilged, sounded, recorded prior to the experiment.
5) Main & auxilary boilers, pipes, and any other system containing liquids are to be filled.
6) The vessel should be floating even keel or with a trim by stern not exceeding 1% of L.B.P. prior to
inclining. If more trim is allowed, trimmed hydrostatics and sounding table are to be available for actual
trim.
7) The vessel should be so moored to allow un-restrained heeling and in a water area with sufficient depth to
avoid grounding due to low tide or current.
8) For the vessel draft reading & mark location, shipyard should inform designer before inclining experiment
about one (1) week, in order to confirm the inclining weight & location for the revision of inclining test
agenda.

B. Weather
The condition of wind, wave and current must be favorable to ensure a valid experiment. It may be necessary
to postpone or delay the experiment if conditions exist are likely to preclude accurate results, e.g. gusty winds,
strong current rain, high waves, etc.

C. Personnel
Only personnel required for the experiment and safe operation of the vessel will be aboard during the entire
test and all work on board is to be suspended. No person will be allowed to leave or board the vessel once the
test has begun, unless an emergency should arise. Persons on board during the inclining are to return to
original locations each time when pendulum readings are being taken.

D. Means Communications
Efficient two-way communication are to be provided between central control and the weight handlers and
between central control and each pendulum station. One person at a central control station is to have
complete control over all personel involved in the test.

E. Draft Observation
1) Draught mark readings are to be taken at aft, midship and forward, at starboard and port sides.
2) the mean draught (average of port and starboard reading) is to be calculated for each of the locations
where draught readings are taken and plotted on the ship's lines drawing or outboard profile to ensure that
all readings are consistent and together define the correct waterline. The resulting plot is to yield either a

straight line or a waterline which is either hogged or sagged. If inconsistent readings are obtained, the
freeboards/draughts are to be retaken.
3) The density of sea water of the sample water surrounding the vessel should be measured with the present
of attending surveyor.

F. Inclining Weights
Total weights 4 tones (about 2 tones each side or 1 ton each group) and inclining weights required to be
placed refer to the diagram in Appendix I.
Weight Grup 1 (P1) to placed around FR. 18.5 and 3.15 m from CL (P).
Weight Grup 2 (S1) to placed around FR. 15 and 3.15 m from CL (S).
Weight Grup 3 (P2) to placed around FR. 11 and 3.15 m from CL (P).
Weight Grup 4 (S2) to placed around FR. 8 and 3.15 m from CL (S).

G. Pendulums
1) One sets of pendulum are to be set up about (3.5 m) metres in length as AFT pendulum at FR.14 (CL) on
main deck. Pendulum arrangement to be placed refer to the diagram in Appendix I.
2) One half drum of heavy oil for damping the swing motion.
3) Max pendulum swing from 0 point = 239 mm approx (total P&S 477 mm)
Min pendulum swing from 0 point = 122 mm approx (total P&S 244 mm)
Defection of pendulum not to be less than 1 deg and not more than 4 deg.
4) Pendulum weight to be at least 2 kg plumb bob.

H. Inclining Test Procedure

1)
2)

Sound and record tanks, checks bilge (if any) by sounding tape.
Record inclining weight position measuring from FR.0.
(WEIGHT, VCG, LCG & Distance between the two groups of weights)
3) Measure the pendulums length & their position refer to FR.0
4) Do the completeness check to the vessel. Record any item to go ashore or on board.
5) Record the number of persons during the inclining test.
6) Check the mooring arrangement to ensure that vessel is floating freely
7) Measured the density of sea water with attending surveyor.
8) Record draft mark positions of the vessel. Read the draft of vessel @ Forward port & stbd, Aft port &
stbd, if any. From the above readings, check that the list of the vessel do not exceed 0.5 degrees and the
vessel trimmed NOT more than 1% of LBP. If more trim is allowed, trimed hydrostatics must be used in
calculation.
9) Two group shifts of weights are required to move from port to starboard side (S1 & S2) and vice-versa
(P1 & P2). Record the deflections caused by each shift. The procedure of shifting the weight are refer to
the diagram in Appendix II.
10) Plot a graph for heeling moment Vs tangent of inclining Angel plot must be a straight line, curved line
should not be accepted and problems should be rectified immediately until a straight line is achieved.
11) The inclining experiment shall be witnessed by and to the satisfaction of the attending surveyor.
