PRESENT YOUR BODIES

I Thessalonians 5:23, "And the
v e r y God of p e a c e sanctify you
wholly; and I p r a y God your
whole s p i r i t and soul and body
be p r e s e r v e d b l a m e l e s s unto the
coming
of our
L o r d Jesus
Christ."

muddy, and it is difficult to get

the r e a l truth o v e r to f o l k s .

I want you to notice something.

He didn't say to present y o u r
s e l v e s to God. A s a usual thing,
our c o n s e c r a t i o n and dedication
s e r v i c e s a r e all out of line. W e
Romans 12:1,2, " I b e s e e c h you don't know what we a r e doing,
therefore,
brethren, by the so that i s the r e a s o n they aren't
m e r c i e s of God, that y e present as effective as they ought to be.
your bodies a l i v i n g s a c r i f i c e , He did not say for you to
holy, acceptable unto God, which present y o u r s e l v e s to God, b e
i s your reasonable s e r v i c e . And cause if you a r e a child of God
be not c o n f o r m e d to this w o r l d : you already belong to H i m . You
but be y e t r a n s f o r m e d by the can't v e r y w e l l p r e s e n t to s o m e
what
a l r e a d y belongs
renewing of your mind, that y e one
may p r o v e what is that good, and to them.
acceptable, and p e r f e c t , w i l l
of G o d . "
He didn't say a w o r d about
T h i s w i l l help us s e e t h e d i f f e r
ence between the inward man
and the outward man. Paul said,
" I beseech
you
therefore,
brethren..." He wasn't w r i t i n g
to s i n n e r s . He wasn't w r i t i n g
to the w o r l d . He was w r i t i n g to
the sakito at R o m e . He a d d r e s s
es this l e t t e r , in Romans 1:7,
" T o all that be in R o m e , beloved
of God, c a l l e d to be saints."

It applies to a l l , b e l o v e d of God,
c a l l e d to be saints. So he said,
" I beseech you t h e r e f o r e , b r e t h
ren, that
ye
present
your
b o d i e s . . . " You do something
with your body. If you don't do
anything with it, nothing w i l l
"'ever be done with i t . I don't
know whether you can s e e it
or not, but in
our church
teachings we have just cluttered
up s o m e of this teaching until
our minds a r e all fu^zy and

dedicating y o u r s e l v e s , o r giving
y o u r s e l v e s in that sense. But
you find that i f you a r e born
again, you a r e H i s . Y o u a r e
that inward man that has b e c o m e
a new man in C h r i s t . I I Corinth
ians 5:17 s a y s , " T h e r e f o r e if
any man be in C h r i s t , he i s a
new c r e a t u r e . " What man i s he
talking about? T h i s
outward
man? N o , it couldn't be the
outward man because he said
this man i s a new c r e a t u r e .
W e have m i s s e d it in r e l i g i o u s
c i r c l e s so many t i m e s . P e o p l e
want folks to join the church.
T h e y want them to do better.
T h e y want them to t r y to l i v e
r i g h t . You know, I n e v e r have
t r i e d to l i v e r i g h t . I just got
born again, and I ' v e been l i v i n g
right e v e r since then.
L i v i n g right i s good, but it won't
make you a Christian and it

won't take you to heaven. Being

born again w i l l though. It b e
comes religion
and it isn't
Christianity.
Christianity is
being born again. Christianity is
r e c e i v i n g the gift of eternal l i f e .
When eternal life (which is the
nature and the life of God) i s
imparted to your
spirit,
it
changes you.
T h i s life of God c o m i n g into you
(the r e a l you) makes this inward
man a new man. You don't have
to make y o u r s e l f new. You
couldn't make y o u r s e l f a new
man anyhow. Being born again
makes you a new man with a
new nature. You have a new
nature in you because he went
right on to say, " . . . o l d things
a r e passed away; behold, all
things a r e b e c o m e new."
You w i l l have trouble with the
flesh, but you won't have trouble
with you. A g a i n , s o m e things
that we have said a r e r e a l l y
misleading unless we teach the
truth. P e o p l e say, " Y o u have to
die out to old self." No you don't.
Old self i s dead and you have
a new s e l f in the place of him.
What you need to do is die out
to flesh.
T h e flesh i s not the old self.
Y o u r flesh i s the same body and
the same flesh it was before you
w e r e saved, but that man on the
inside (which was the old you
and the o l d s e l f ) has become a
new self and a new man in
C h r i s t . T h i s man on the inside
has b e c o m e a new man.
When he b e c o m e s a new man
then " o l d things a r e
passed
away; behold all things a r e

become new." He i s a "new

c r e a t u r e " in Christ Jesus. T h e
body i s not new. A t the c o m i n g
of the L o r d , thank God, we w i l l
have a new body. But He expects
the new man, this hidden man
of the heart, this inward man
that has b e c o m e a new man in
C h r i s t , to do something with the
body. He expects you not to let
the body dominate you to be a
carnal Christian, o r a b o d y ruled Christian.

Do l i k e Paul saidI do s o m e
thing with m y body, I keep it
under, I bring it into subjection
to my s p i r i t . I don't let my body
rule my s p i r i t o r the inward
man. I let the inward man r u l e
the outward man. He said this,
" I b e s e e c h you t h e r e f o r e , b r e t h
r e n , by the m e r c i e s of God,
that y e present your b o d i e s . . . "
That is the house you a r e l i v i n g
in. Y o u a r e the c a r e t a k e r of
that house, not God. Y o u do
something
with
your body,
" . . . y e present your bodies a
l i v i n g s a c r i f i c e , holy, a c c e p t
able unto God, which i s your
reasonable s e r v i c e . "
I like
another
translation
which
r e a d s , "...which is your s p i r i t
ual s e r v i c e . "

In the church w o r l d w e have

those who say, " W e l l , it doesn't
make any d i f f e r e n c e about the
body, what the body does, or how
it sins. T h i s o l d body is n e v e r
going to get to heaven anyhow."
But you s e e my brother and
s i s t e r , it does make some dif
ference to God what you do with
your body.
He wants t r a n s
figured b o d i e s .
Then, notice in the 2nd v e r s e
that he says something about
doing something with your mind.
He said, "And be not c o n f o r m e d
to this w o r l d : but be y e t r a n s
f o r m e d by the r e n e w i n g of your
mind, that y e may p r o v e what
i s that good, and acceptable, and
p e r f e c t , w i l l of G o d . " T h i s i s
what astounded m e when
I

r e a l i z e d something h e r e .
I'm
s o r r y to say that I had p r e a c h
ed f o r fifteen y e a r s b e f o r e I
saw this.
I don't know much yet, but thank
God f o r what I have learned.
It astounded m e one day when it
dawned on m e what he did say.
He was w r i t i n g here to people
who w e r e born again and S p i r i t f i l l e d , and y e t their being born
again and S p i r i t - f i l l e d had not
affected t h e i r bodies o r their
m i n d s . How many people do
you know that are l i k e that?

with God o r he couldn't f e l l o w

ship with God. Did you e v e r t r y
to fellowship with an old cow?
W e l l , they a r e in a different
kingdom than you are in. T h e y
a r e in a different c l a s s than you
a r e in. W e can't fellowship with
them, but we can fellowship with
one another, and we can f e l l o w
ship with God, because we a r e
in the same c l a s s of being as
God. P r a i s e the L o r d !
T o the woman at the well in
Samaria in the 4th chapter of
John's G o s p e l , Jesus said, "God
is a S p i r i t . . . " She said, "Our
fathers worshipped
in
this
mountain; and y e say, that in
J e r u s a l e m i s the place where
men ought to w o r s h i p . " He said
to her, " T h e hour cometh, when
ye shall neither in this moun
tain, nor yet at J e r u s a l e m ,
worship the Father. Y e worship
y e know not what: we know what
we worship; for salvation i s of
the J e w s . But the hour cometh,
and now i s , when the true w o r
shippers shall worship
the
Father in Spirit and in truth:
for the Father seeketh such to
worship him.

He i s t e l l i n g them that you a r e

going to have to do something
with your body and y o u ' r e going
to have to do something with
your mind. God isn't g o i n g t o d o
anything with those. God c o n
tacted your s p i r i t . Y o u c o n
tacted God with your s p i r i t ,
and your spiritthe
inward
man, the hidden man of the
heartbecame a new man in
C h r i s t . N o w then it i s up to you
to do something. He i s t e l l i n g
us that we need f i r s t to present
our bodies a living s a c r i f i c e
and second w e need to get our
minds r e n e w e d with the W o r d ,
of God.
"God is a Spirit; and they that
worship him must worship him
One of the g r e a t e s t needs of the in spirit and in truth." So we
church today is to have r e n e w e d know that God i s a Spirit; and
minds. Just because you a r e a yet God, who is a Spirit, took
Christian and e v e n S p i r i t - f i l l e d , upon H i m s e l f a m a n ' s body.

death l e a v e s his body, and that
Man has to be in the same c l a s s when he l e a v e s his body he is

no l e s s man than he was when

he had his body. T h e s t o r y of
Abraham, L a z a r u s , and the r i c h
man p r o v e s that.
Paul said, " W i l s t we a r e at home
in the body, we a r e absent f r o m
the L o r d . " And he said, " W e
a r e confident, I say, and w i l l i n g
rather to be absent f r o m the
body, and to be present with
the L o r d . " So then, w e know that
God
i s only r e v e a l e d to man
through the s p i r i t . It is the s p i r i t
of man that contacts God.
The
r e a l man i s s p i r i t , he has
a soul, and he l i v e s in a body.
You can let that body continue
to dominate you if you want to.
That body, if y o u ' l l let it, w i l l
want to go on doing the things
it has always done. T h i s inward
man has to dominate it and
present the body to God a l i v i n g
s a c r i f i c e . That helps us then in
Christian l i v i n g and Christian
life.
