What is CO?
CO is the chemical abbreviation for Carbon Monoxide.
CO is the #1 cause of poisoning in the US.
Common sources are home heaters, fire places, gas
appliances, engine powered tools and lawnmowers,
grills, and car exhaust.
CO is colorless, tasteless, odorless gas and cannot be
noticed by humans or pets.
That is why its called The Silent Killer

QuickStart, EST2, FCC and IRC3 functionality

Support only SIGA2-PS, -HRS and HFS
Support SIGA2-PHS in combination mode only
Currently no CO support.

CO Codes and Standards

UL 2034, Standard for Single and Multiple Station Carbon Monoxide
Alarms
UL2075, Standard for Safety Gas and Vapor Detectors and Sensors
NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code
Treats CO sensors as part of a combination system, which is not
fire alarm and may be identified as a Supervisory event
NFPA 720 Standard for the Installation of Carbon Monoxide (CO)
Detection and Warning Equipment
OSHA Commercial and Industrial Standards (air quality)

CO Alarm Versus Co Detector

Regulatory authorities use the
alarm and detector
nomenclature to differentiate
applications,
CO Detectors are Listed to UL
2075 & are connected to burg. &
fire control panels.
CO Alarms are single station
stand alone models Listed to UL
2034.

EST Model 250-CO and SIGA2COS CO Detector (listed to UL

2075)

CO Codes and Standards

CO Codes and Standards

Highlight of NFPA 720 Standard for the Installation of

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detection and Warning
Equipment - 2009 Edition
Introduces concept of a CO detection systems (NFPA
720 3.3.19)
Carbon Monoxide Detection System
Combination Carbon Monoxide Detection System
(non-fire)
Combination System (NFPA 72)
Fire Alarm System (NFPA 72)
House Hold Carbon Monoxide Detection System

CO Codes and Standards

NFPA 720 - 3.3.19.3 Combination System
What does it Mean?
Can do both as previously detailed
Combination Fire and CO.
Device type and standby/alarm requirements the same
dependant on system designation
Supervisory when monitoring CO Alarms
*Alarm when monitoring CO Detectors
Signature II
Is considered a CO Detector (alarm activation).
Audible base is considered a notification appliance and not a
part of the detector combination. Considered a CO Alarm
(Supervisory activation).

NFPA 720 - 3.3.19.2 Combination Carbon Monoxide

Detection System (Non-Fire)

Devices need to be programmed as Alarm

CO alarm is a distinct signal
Non-CO circuitry faults cannot affect system operation
Power requirement same as CO detection system
3.3.19.1
