Representation

We have two main characters and a doll in our film. We wanted to make sure
that we include some codes and conventions so that audience knows it is a
horror film. We didnt use too many stereotypes as it may make the film too
clich and the film wouldnt complain.
Victim (Samantha)
Gender: Our main character is a female; therefore she is presented as weak
as this is a stereotype of females in a horror film and is used as a convention.
Near the climax of our film she is presented as more vulnerable and weak, as
she is being chased by Abbey and the doll. We decided to make sure she
wears ordinary clothes, instead of the typical white dress, as we feel it will
allow our audience to relate to her more.
Race: Our main actor is Asian. We chose her as she is a good actress,
therefore it will be easier to create a good quality work and our end production
will be produced to a good standard.
Age: Our character is 16 years old; however in our production she will be
playing the role of an 18 year old. We chose Samantha to play this age, as
she looks older than she is and an 18 year old Is a legal adult, therefore it
makes sense for her to be the carer of her younger sister.
Disability: Our main character has no physical or mental disability. She is an
ordinary girl; however some people may consider her gender as a weakness
in the film, as females are considered more fragile and vulnerable
Sexuality: Our main characters sexuality isnt addressed in our film, as it is not
relevant to our storyline.
Antagonist (Abbey)
Gender: Our main character is a female; however she is presented as strong.
This is a countertype of females in a horror film and is used to be different.
Near the climax of our film she is presented as dominant and strong, as she is
being chasing Samantha with the doll. We decided to make sure she wears
ordinary clothes, as we feel it will allow our audience to relate to her more.
Race: Our main actor is Asian. We chose her as she is a good actress,
therefore it will be easier to create a good quality work and our end production
will be produced to a good standard.
Age: Our character is 13 years old; however in our production she will be
playing the role of a 12 year old. We chose Esha to play this age, as she
looks younger than she is and it is a good age for our character as needs to

have some independence, therefore it makes sense for her to be the younger
sister..

Possessed girl
Gender: Our main character is a female; however she is presented as creepy
and dangerous. This is a countertype of females in a horror film and is used to
be different. Near the climax of our film she is presented as dominant and
intimidating as she sneaks up behind Abbey. We decided to make sure she
wears ordinary clothes, as we feel it will allow our audience to relate to her
more.
