1.1.1 Installation & Re-installation

SPI should be installed first, or it will potentially create problems for

SPP&ID.

If SPI ESL 2009 SP1 is uninstalled at any time (and this must be done
before you install a new version of SPI ESL, e.g. 2009 SP2), it will break
SPEL. Therefore, if this was done on any machine, the following should
be performed:
o Remove SPEL completely follow the steps in Appendix B of this
document, for SPEL only. You must uninstall the base version of
SPEL together with any Service Packs and Hot Fixes, all from
Control Panel, and follow Appendix B. It is not necessary to
remove SPEM.
o Re-install SPEL base version 2009, Service Pack SP2, and hot fix
HF10.
o If ESL is removed again for any reason, reapply the two steps
above, that is remove SPEL completely and re-install SPEL.
Intergraph believes that these steps will now resolve:

SR#1-137724754: SPEL does not launch on Servers;

SR#1-138216524: SPI ESL does not work.

However, Intergraph would like to have more information about the SPI
ESL problem when the draft.exe fails with both SPI and SPEL. This only
happened once in our tests.
Note: Intergraph recommends that Customer upgrades to SPI ESL
2009 SP2 as this fixes the above problem completely.
1.1.2 Clean-up Steps after Removal

Under normal circumstances, uninstalling the product from Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs, uninstalls the Intergraph product. However, in some
cases there could be traces of the product left behind, causing a subsequent
re-installation to fail, or if the re-installation succeeds, some aspect of the
application may not work. In these cases, use the steps listed in the relevant
product Appendix of this document to completely remove the product before
re-installing it.
If an Intergraph product is not covered in the Appendices, you can always
use the Windows MS Installer Cleanup Utility (available from

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651) to remove entries left behind for

that specific product.
1.1.3 Install Sequence of Base Versions, Service Packs, and Hot Fixes
Intergraph confirms that the standard install sequence is to have a
SmartPlant product baseline version (e.g. version 2009), the Service Pack,
and then the applicable Hot Fix done together and not interspersed with
other application installs, EXCEPT in situations where a specific product
Service Pack is a full installation and not a partial installation.
If a particular product Service Pack is a full installation, such as SPI 2009 SP1,
then the Service Pack can be installed without the base version being
installed before it.
The product Service Pack of current interest to Customer which is an
exception, i.e. which is a full (not partial) installation and can be installed
without the base version is SPI 2009 SP1.
Note also that SPI 2009 SP2 is also a full installation package.
