Rationale for inclusion of the course in the program:

This course is aimed to provide the knowledge of the basic concepts of thermal energy,
nuclear decay, oscillations, and astrophysics and cosmology. The students will be
equipped with understanding on thermal energy, nuclear decay, oscillations, and
astrophysics and cosmology. These concepts are essential since this is the foundation for
their study in higher level of physics and in engineering.

Teaching-learning strategy
Teaching and learning will be via lecture and practise tutorial sessions. Students will also
be required to do their own self-study either through guided questions in notes and tutorial.
Assessment strategy:
The formative assessment will be conducted through quizzes, written test, assignment and
trial examination.

Synopsis
This subject will cover thermal energy, nuclear decay, oscillations, and astrophysics and
cosmology. It emphasizes on developing students physics competency in quite a general
area of physics to prepare them for higher level of physics and engineering. The main
method of delivery combines lecture, tutorial and drill with activities to generate interest.
