Previous Research Summary:

My first research study was my Post graduate research project. It is about investigating
antioxidant status and NQO1 genetic polymorphism of population exposed to Volatile Organic
Compounds (VOCs) in the SIPCOT industrial area, Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. I have done this
project in National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur, a renowned
CSIR institute in India. This study demanded collection of blood samples from people residing
around SIPCOT industrial area, Cuddalore and screening those blood samples for biomarker
enzymes and genetic polymorphisms. This study was about investigating the impacts of
industries over the ecology and the health of the population in that region. This project helped me
to understand the gene regulation and expression. From this project, I am familiarized with
molecular biology and biochemistry experiments.
My PhD thesis title is Isolation and identification of secondary metabolites from
microorganisms in Sea surface microlayer and its pharmaceutical applications. It is about
isolating bacteria from sea surface microlayer and extracting bioactive molecules from the
isolates. In addition, I have experience in testing potential bacterial bioactive molecules for
human therapeutic agents. The rise of drug resistant pathogens and so, the diseases demand
invention of new effective drugs. Because of this, systematic testing of bioactive molecules from
various microbes is essential and that might yield new drugs, which would be successful against
drug resistant pathogen. This study demanded Microbiology, Molecular biology, Chemistry,
Biochemistry and in vitro oncology trials. Hence, I have experience in these techniques.
My current research focus is to understand metabolic changes in cells, to identify the novel
bioactive molecules and genes responsible for the bioactive molecules. This would involve an
exhaustive integrated approach involving molecular and cell biology techniques. This area, thus,
offers tremendous potential for me to do inventive and resourceful research. I hope my research
interest would cope up with your expectation and I am sure I would enjoy complete involvement,
painstaking attention to detail and the exciting possibility of being a part of a pioneering research
that would equip one to face the challenges thrown up by nature.
From my PhD thesis, I have published three papers so far. Though their publications are not
much strong, two more papers are on the process of communication to a decent publisher which I
hope would be soon reviewed.
