A daily training rate of $650 USD/ person applies for these courses. The training fee
includes refreshments and lunch. Electronic copies of the training materials are included, as
well as the hard copy. IHS reserves the right to cancel the course. Course cancellation

How Will You Benefit?


This PHA Leadership course will empower you, and enable your organization through you,
to identify, analyze, mitigate and monitor risks and hazards across the company. You will
use state-of-the-art risk management systems from IHS for hands-on exercises and
facilitation practice under the guidance of experienced professional instructors. You will
learn tips and tricks to generate high quality risk studies in efficient and effective ways.
Prerequisite
It is mandatory that you have either technical background and/or experience in the oil, gas,
chemicals, power, mining, pharmaceuticals, biotech or other process industries.

Day 1 - Basic PHA Methodology & Workshop
Concepts of risk and safety, industrial incidents and lessons learned regulations and
standards, various PHA techniques including HAZOP, What if, FMEA, and PHA, revalidation
of PHAs, introduction to management of change, human factors in industrial safety and PHA
workshop using IHS software.
Day 2 - Advanced PHA Methodology Concepts & Workshop
Concepts of PHA team leadership, how to conduct a facilitation, role of a PHA leader,
techniques for efficient and effective facilitations, how to create nodes and PHA project
management, optimization of PHA team performance, what is a high-quality PHA and PHA
workshop using IHS software.
Day 3 - Software End User
IHS software walk-through and navigation, file management, walkthrough of preformatted
industry standard PHA templates, comprehensive study and practice of end-user functions,
hands-on end-user functions exercises.
Day 4 - Software Advanced User
Introduction to IHS software template configuration engine, walk-through of a PHA template
creation from scratch and hands-on exercises, comprehensive study of advanced user
functions and template user interface layout design.

HAZOP to LOPA
and Basic Overview
of SIL

How Will You Benefit?


This four-day course will empower you, and enable your organization through you, to
identify, analyze, mitigate and monitor risks and hazards across the company, and
systematically assess and manage the integrity of the protection layers. You will use
state- of- the- art risk management systems for hands-on exercises under the guidance of
experienced professional instructors. You will learn how to conduct the HAZOP and
LOPA facilitation and perform SIL analysis.
Prerequisite
It is mandatory that you have a technical background and more than two years of
experience in the oil, gas, chemicals, power, mining, pharmaceutical or other process
industries.

This advanced course provides practical training for the novice with a technical
background in process engineering and refresher training for the seasoned professionals,

Course Content
Day 1 - PHA Methodology and Workshop
Concepts of risk and safety, industrial incidents and lessons learned, regulations and
standards, HAZOP methodology, terminology and procedures, introduction to
management of change, human factors in industrial safety and HAZOP workshop using
IHS software.
Day 2 - LOPA and Target SIL Assignment
Introduction to target SIL assignment and LOPA, ALARP, tolerable risks, risk assessment
and SIL determination methodologies, concepts of layers of protection, terminology.
Day 3 - Introduction to LOPA
Understanding LOPA, how does LOPA work, procedure, consequence and severity
estimation, developing scenarios, initiating events and frequency estimation, IPLs, risk
based decisions and workshop using IHS software.
Day 4 - Introduction to SIL Analysis
What is functional safety, regulations and standards, safety life cycle?

Analysis (LOPA)

How Will You Benefit?


This course will be beneficial to you and your organization as it will teach participants how
and when LOPA should be used, how LOPA relates to qualitative Hazard Evaluation
(e.g., HAZOP), and how to use the LOPA technique for SIL evaluation
The course enhances easy learning, comprehension and success through a step-by-step
approach with interactive learning and real world examples.

Prerequisite
Previous PHA/HAZOP experience and/or training is a recommended pre-requisite for
participants who take this course.
