Lesson Aims: By the end of the lesson, the Ss will be able to:
-differentiate between the affirmative, negative and interrogative form of the verb TO BE in the
past.
- recognize the correct form of the verb in the past.
- practice Past Tense of the verb TO BE.
- practice their speaking/writing skills
Expected difficulties: Ss might have problems in differentiating between the affirmative, negative
and interrogative form of the verb TO BE in the past.
Teaching techniques: dialogue, observation, explanation.

Aim: for students to use the Past Tense of the verb TO BE correctly.
Materials: handouts
Organization: pair work
Procedure: Teacher now gives students handouts on which they have exercises with the past tense
of the verb TO BE. Teacher explains to the students what they have to do and then checks their
answers.
Expected difficulties: Students might have problems in solving the exercises.
Activity 4: Production
Writing, Reading
Timing: 5`
Aim: for students to make questions and answers orally using the past tense of the verb TO BE.
Materials: book.
Organization: pair work.
Procedure: Teacher now asks students to look on the book on exercise 6 on page 94 and then
explains to the students what they have to do in pairs, adding also the fact that their knowledge of
the world will be tested. Then teachers asks some pairs to answer.
Expected difficulties: Students might have problems in formulating the questions and the answers
orally.
Activity 5: Homework

Procedure: Teacher now sets the homework (exercise 8 on page 95) Teacher explains to the
students what they have to do.
Activity 6: Feedback

Procedure: Teacher now evaluates the achievement of the lesson aims by making sure students
have a clear understanding of the lesson. Teacher marks some students for their responses and
makes general appreciation of the class.
