UKAMBANI PROFESSIONALS ACCORD

FROM THE MEETING HELD ON 19TH MARCH, 2016 AT KENYATTA

STADIUM, MACHAKOS

We, the Professionals drawn from Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taveta, Mombasa,
Nairobi, Embu, Nakuru and abroad, meeting here at the Machakos Stadium on
19th March, 206 convened by His Excellency the Governor of Machakos, Dr.
Alfred N. Mutua, EBS, do enter into an accord and have made the following
Resolutions:1) The meeting resolves that there will be unity of purpose for the sake of
development amongst professionals from this region, with formation of
professionals Mashinani Caucus.
2) The meeting resolves that there will be accelerated and rapid development to
provide for the basic needs in our region including water, better education,
food sufficiency, increased trade and commerce, the empowerment of youth
and women, health and maternal care and the provision of jobs among
others.

3) The meeting resolves to establish an Ukambani Bank to provide affordable

credit and to grow the economy of the region.
4) There should be formation of a regional lower Eastern economic block for
accelerated development and economic growth. The Professionals gathered
here task the Governors of the region to start a process towards this end. In
this consideration, the Athi River waters should be harnessed for irrigation
in the region.
5) The Kamba community must be respected, the meeting resolves to support
any effort that leads to a paradigm shift in Ukambani with the aim of

prioritizing development; a shift from politics of empty rhetoric to the

politics of development.
6) It was resolved that there shall be civic education in Ukambani to sensitize
the people on the resolutions agreed by the Ukambani Professionals
Caucus.
7) Put up a fruit processing plant for Ukambani region and a training centre
for transfer of technology in Agricultural technology and industrial training.
8) That the region partners with the local universities to encourage tertiary
education that is skill based.
9) We resolve to form Ukambani Professional Caucus that have structures at
the Regional, County, Constituency and Ward Levels.

Professionals from

different specialties to form Sector Specific Committees to advice on sector

specific issues. The sectors are Education, Roads, Investments and
Industrialization, Youth, Women, Civic Empowerment, Legal, Water, Health,
Security, SMEs and Jua Kali, Agriculture, Tourism, Financial

That the Ukambani Professional Caucus shall encourage youth talent

development and empowerment programmes through mentorship and

financial sponsorship.
11)

The professional become opinion leaders in their respective Sub-Counties

speak the truth about out leaders and offer solutions to the problems that
befall our people.

That there will be focus on women advocacy and the

plight of the girl child.

12)

The meeting resolves that:

(a) Leaders who are at the fore front to Champion Development of our people
and fighting poverty will be supported by Ukambani Professionals in all
ways.

(b) On the other hand, leaders that stand on the ways of values of
development, Ukambani Professionals will reject them to the extent of
campaigning against them and censuring them in the community.
(c) Therefore, the meeting urges other leaders, political and from other
sectors, to join the Ukambani Development Caucus to help achieve the
transformation of this region and community.
13)

The meeting resolves that leaders who engage in empty politicking,

insults, defamation and acts meant to scuttle development and to cause

disharmony will be black listed by Ukambani professionals and campaigned
against.
14)

This meeting resolves that there shall be the formation of an Ukambani

Professional Caucus with teams working on specific thematic areas aimed at

attaining the overall objectives as set out above, these teams will be led by
specialists in every thematic area to act as a sector champion.
15)

There will be an interim steering committee comprising of Professionals

from Ukambani Counties.

Machakos County will be the Patron of the Ukambani Professional Caucus. .

16)

The next Ukambani Professionals Caucus meeting will be held in six (6)

months time at a venue to be communicated.
