BESS (Bloomberg Essentials)

BMC (Bloomberg Market Concepts)


8 hour self-paced e-learning video modules (Economics, Currencies, Fixed Income, Equities)

Type BPS<GO> - download Bloombergs many cheat sheets

Create your Bloomberg personal username and password

Required for Bloomberg certifications.


Log into the computer using your Emory usernet/id and password.
Bloomberg will automatically launch.
Click Create a New Login
o Complete the registration process.

Do I need my own Bloomberg username and password if I dont want the certifications?

No, it is not required. You can log into Bloomberg and use all its functions by using the shared GBS
Bloomberg username/password. To locate it:
Go to the GBL Bloomberg access page http://business.library.emory.edu/researchlearning/databases/bloomberg.php

Click Library Computer Use with Unique Password to access the list of database passwords
stored on GBS Sharepoint.

What equipment do I need to earn Bloomberg certification?

You must use the Bloomberg terminal in the Goizueta Business Library. You cannot access Bloomberg
remotely.

What is BESS?
BESS is focused on teaching you the basics of navigating the Bloomberg system and learning how to
use key functions such as LaunchPad and Excel Add-In.

Basics of locating Equity, Fixed Income, FX, and Commodity information

Dont have to complete all the modules in one sitting; you can stop as many times as you want
and will be returned to where you left off after you login.
Get started: Type BESS<GO> once logged into Bloomberg.
BESS contains two programs: the Core Program and the Market Sector Program.

Core Program contains 2 parts

What is the Add-In? : 15 Minutes
Explore Tools : 15 Minutes
Import Data Wizards : 20 Minutes
Constructing Formulas : 30 Minutes
Bloomberg News and Research Functionality : 10 Minutes
Bloomberg Launchpad : 10 Minutes
Exam - take an exam on this material
o You must achieve a minimum score of 75% correct to pass and move on to the Market
Sector Program
o You can only re-take the exam 1 time.
Note an Acknowledgement of Completion is not issued for after the Core Exam; you must
complete the Market Sectors Program exam to be issued one.

Market Sectors Program contains 3 parts

in the following 4 financial sectors
o Equity : 15 Minutes + Exam (As much time as needed)
o Fixed Income
Corporate : 5-10 Minutes
Money Markets : 5-10 Minutes
Government : 5-10 Minutes
+ Exam (As much time as needed)
o FX Essentials : 10 Minutes + Exam (As much time as needed)
o Commodity Essentials : 10 Minutes + Exam (As much time as needed)
Exam - take an exam on this material
o You must achieve a minimum score of 75% correct to pass
o You can only re-take the exam 1 time.
Acknowledgement of Completion at the BESS Training Acknowledgement window, follow
the prompts to request it be sent to your email.

BMC (Bloomberg Market Concepts) Certification


What is BMC?
BMC is focused on teaching you an introduction to the financial markets; it includes practice
navigating Bloomberg and using Bloomberg functions (i.e. LaunchPad, etc.) but the focus is
understanding the context of financial markets.
8 hour self-paced e-learning video modules (Economics, Currencies, Fixed Income, Equities)
Earn Certification of Completion
Dont have to complete all the modules in one sitting; you can stop as many times as you
want and will be returned to where you left off after you login.
BMC contains 4 modules: Economics, Currencies, Fixed Income and Equities.
All learning is done via Bloomberg Video; bring a headset.
Each module takes approximately 2 hours.

You are not graded on these quizzes; they are intended to help you to review what you have just learned.

Certification of Completion earned at the completion of all 4 modules; the BMC home screen will
prompt you to download it.
