Q1. Explain the objectives of quality in healthcare. Add a note on
Maxwells concept of quality.
Answer. Objectives of quality in healthcare:
Hem's objectives for physician and provider quality are to:
Promote the delivery of necessary and appropriately managed medical care
to members by properly credentialed physicians and providers in an
appropriate setting with maximum safety.
Promote availability, accessibility and acceptability of a range of medical
and behavioral health services through a network of professional, facility
and ancillary providers.

Q2. Differentiate between Six sigma and Total quality management.


Answer. Comparison of Six Sigma and Total Quality Management
Six-Sigma is a relatively newer concept than Total Quality
Management but not exactly its replacement. The basic difference
between Total Quality Management and Six Sigma is that TQM delivers superior
quality manufactured goods whereas six sigma on the other hand results in
better results. Total Quality management refers to continuous effort by
employees to ensure high quality products. The process of Six Sigma
incorporates many small changes in the systems to ensure effective results
and better customer satisfaction.

Answer. Quality Tools
The seven tools are:
1. Cause-and-effect diagram (also known as the "fishbone" or Ishikawa
diagram)
2. Check sheet
3. Control chart
4. Histogram
5. Pareto chart

Q4. Explain the steps followed in implementation of QMS in


healthcare organization.
Answer. 1. Mission. Clarify Vision and Values
Employees need to know how what they do is tied to organizational strategy
and objectives which makes it important that all employees understand where
the organization is headed (its vision), what it hopes to accomplish (mission)
and the operational principles (values) that will steer its priorities and decision
making. Having a process to educate employees during new employee
orientation and a communication process to help ensure that the mission,
vision and values is always in front of the people is a major first step.

Q5. Define total quality management. Discuss the importance of TQM


in healthcare.
Answer. Total Quality Management: Total quality management (TQM)
consists of organization-wide efforts to install and make permanent a climate
in which an organization continuously improves its ability to deliver highquality products and services to customers. While there is no widely agreedupon approach, TQM efforts typically draw heavily on the previously developed
tools and techniques of quality control. TQM enjoyed widespread attention
during the late 1980s and early 1990s before being overshadowed by ISO
9000, Lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma.

Q6. Explain team processes in healthcare.


Answer. Health care or healthcare is the maintenance or improvement of
health via the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, illness, injury,

and other physical and mental impairments in human beings. Health care is
delivered by health professionals (providers or practitioners) in allied health
professions, chiropractic, physicians, dentistry, midwifery, nursing, medicine,
optometry, pharmacy, psychology, and other health professions. It includes the
work done in providing primary care, secondary care, and tertiary care, as well
as in public health.
