mythological traditions of women as a
symbol of evil, manifested in the form of
various demonic beings, and among the
oldest ones recorded is the one about
Tiamat. Origin of this irrational fear, should
be initially sought in the physiognomy of the
female body. Vagina is the name which
comes from the eponymous Latin word which
literally means "scabbard". Compared to the
penis, which is protruded and clearly visible
on the body, vagina is withdrawn inside the
body and as such was a mystery for the
human psyche and an ideal topic for all
imaginative notions and fictions. Even its
visual identity, primarily because of the
pubic hair and clitoris, it created an
impression of something mystical and full of
danger, which caused fear among some
creators of myths as well as extremely

Iako se dolaskom monoteizma znatno

potisnula paganska vjera, ili bolje reeno,
religija prirode, to nije presudno oznaavalo
i njen kraj, prvenstveno zbog toga to su
paganski obredi bili sastavni dio
poljoprivrede, odnosno kulta plodnosti, bez
kojeg ljudi nisu mogli ivjeti. Ba zato
nastaje otpor prema nametnutoj religiji i
stvara se njen poseban, paralelni oblik, kojeg
danas poznajemo pod pojmom "narodna
religija" baziran na paganskim vjerovanjima i
obiajima, ija starost datira od najranijeg
vremena postojanja naeg naroda, tako da
esto ni sami etnolozi, i antropolozi ne mogu
proniknuti u potpunosti u njihovo porijeklo i
simboliku.

U etnografskim biljekama sa poetka

dvadesetog vijeka mogu se pronai opisi
rituala podsticanja plodnosti, koji su se, kako
je evidentno, potpuno izgubili u prvoj polovini
prolog vijeka, to dokazuje koliko dugo se
uspio ouvati ilirski kult plodnosti, baziran
na paganskim vjerovanjima, u naem narodu.
U njima je naglaena uloga mukarca i ene,
odnosno onoga to se u drevnom
vjetiarstvu/paganizmu nazivalo Veliki
sveenik i Velika sveenica, koji su kroz
seksualni odnos blagosiljali prirodu i prizivali
njene sile.
