What were the aims of the artefact?
The aim for the unit F632 was to create 9 key frames with the help of my
planning materials These consisted of production aims, location report, screen
test notes and most importantly a script. My creative artefact focused on fear
and isolation and I had to incorporate it as it was in the two films I analysed, The
Woman in Black and Paranormal Activity 4.
The narrative for my 9 key frames is based around a student who walks inside an
abandoned school, because he wants to see why the school is abandoned. This is
because; every time he finishes school he always goes pass this very school and
wondered how the school looks inside and why the school is abandoned. Anu
was so suspicious he went in, even though the signs tell him not to come inside
the school. Anu goes inside and sees how the school looks inside. Anu was so
intrigued that he went inside one of the buildings. As he went inside he heard a
noise coming upstairs, so he walks upstairs cautiously not knowing whats going
to be upstairs at all. Then Anu realises that something is following him. When he
turns behind he sees a man who covered his face, wearing a black leather jacket.
The man who was wearing a leather jacket was the murderer and he was the
reason of why the school was closed down. The murderer also known as The
Devil in White walks through the long hall and knives Anu. To make sure that Anu
was dead and there was no way of him surviving, The Devil in White slices his
throat. I chose to focus on showing the themes of fear and isolation mainly
through sound and mise-en-scene.
What codes and conventions identified in the textual analysis were
used in the artefact?
For my textual analysis, I focused on two horror movies, The Woman in Black
(2012), which was directed by James Watkins and Paranormal Activity 4 (2012),
which was directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost. When analysing both
films, I found out that the ghost or the unnatural thing, strikes at the very end of
the movie and tires to kills the hero. With that I based my 9 key frames with the
same idea, killing the hero at the end. Both my characters are stereotypes. The
murderers face is covered, portraying him as emotionless. He wont have any
feelings toward killing Anu, who is also in the frame as a student. Using The
Woman in Black idea, I had made my character The Devil in White do similar
things done by the shadow figure in The Woman in Black.
How were the planning materials used in the construction of the
artefact?
When planning, I made a script, location report and screen test. I created a
script, so that when the actors are going to act. The script allowed them to know
what to say and what kind of mood they should be when acting in the 9 key
frame. I created screen test notes to decide who is going to act in my creative
artefact, which I then narrowed it down to 2 people. This gave me a variety of
people to choose from with different strengths and weaknesses and it allowed
me to pick the 2 best actors for my 9 key frames. The location report allowed
me to choose the best setting for my 9 key frames. Taking a lot of pictures of the

location allowed me to know which location is the best location for me to use for
the type of genre I am doing and that suits the scene I chose to do.
How successful was the artefact in achieving the aims?
I believe that I have met my requirements and achieved my aim to create 9 key
frames with the use of my planning materials. This was because, I created a
good script, chose the best 2 actors I had and planned out where I am going to
shoot my scene and what kind of angles I was prepared to do. Giving different
angle gives my 9 key frames more excitement and makes it more interesting and
I believe this led to the success of my 9 key frames.

In both films I looked at, which were The Woman in Black and Paranormal Activity
4, I used what was common in both films and used it in my 9 key frames. For The
Woman in Black, when Arthur Kipps was shown where he was going to live he
looked at the massive abandoned mansion, where he was told to live in. If you
look at the first picture, you can see that my character Anu is looking at the
abandoned school to see if anyone was still inside the school building. This was
because I wanted to show the audience that await the protagonist. If you look at
Paranormal Activity 4, you can see that in one of the scenes, when Alex, was
talking to her boy friend on the laptop, all of a sudden you can see that behind
her was Robbie who was staring at Alex and watching what she was doing and if
you look at my scene I did, you can see that I used the same concept and made
a similar scene as the one that was done in Paranormal Activity 4. The Devil in
White, is watching what Anu is doing and seeing where he is heading off to.
However, in my scene Anu knew someone was following him, so he turns around
slowly to see The Devil in White and runs away from him. Using both films, I was
able to create a successful 2 minute film/9 key frames.
