Dear Parents / Carers & children!
Welcome to Term 5! It is fantastic that we now have the sun with us and hopefully it will
continue. The children have already settled well into the new term and are focussed on their
learning.
Please note that the Year 5 Class Collective Worship Assembly is next Thursday on 29th
April at 10.40am. Hopefully you will be able to come along.
The information below will provide you with more details about what the children will be
learning during the course of the term. It may be helpful for the children to conduct some
prior research from books or the internet.
I’ve included pictures of some of the highlights from Term 4 on the second page.

Sex and Relationship Education
This term SRE will be taught throughout the school.

In year 5 the children will be covering the areas below:

• Puberty and its impact on the body


• Gender stereotypes
• Menstruation and wet dreams
• Building good relationships

Topics this term

ICT –Spreadsheets
In this unit children will learn to enter numbers, labels
and simple formulae into a spreadsheet and to use the
data to calculate totals. They will then use imputed data
to create bar charts and graphs
PE
Outdoor PE –Tennis
Indoor PE- Dance with a professional dance tutor

Creative Maths
Each Friday the children are taught creative maths. The aim
is to help them to see maths in a wider context and
encourage greater maths enjoyment, creativity,
collaboration and communication, reasoning strategies and
skills; and self reflection and evaluation. This term the
focus is Maths and Art and we will focus on the work and
techniques of Paul Klee. Visit to the Imperial

Homework will continue to be set each Friday and is
expected to be handed in the following Wednesday and
spellings will continue to be given out every Monday and
children will be tested on Fridays. Please continue to
encourage the children to complete all homework to a good
standard and help them to remember and apply the spelling
rule that has been taught during the week.
