Instructions for Updating Your Current Hardware Lock to Recognize STAAD.

Pro 2003
(For Standalone Locks only)
If you are an existing user of STAAD.Pro and are upgrading to STAAD.Pro 2003, your current lock will not work
with STAAD.Pro 2003. You need to electronically update the lock to run STAAD.Pro 2003.
STAAD.Pro can now automatically update the lock if your machine has an Internet connection, and if you can reach
the website http://www.reiworld.com with your Web browser. The procedure for updating the lock is given below:
If your machine is connected to the Internet:
1.

Install STAAD.Pro 2003

2.

Start the STAAD.Pro 2003 program. Make sure that your hardware lock is attached to your machine.

3.

You shall receive a message notifying you that the current lock will not work with STAAD.Pro 2003. Click
Yes when prompted with the question, Are you connected to the Internet now?.

4.

The application will securely retrieve the necessary information from your existing lock and connect to the
REI database system over the Internet. If successful, STAAD.Pro will automatically update your lock and
launch STAAD.Pro.

5.

If STAAD.Pro can connect to the Internet but cannot automatically update your lock (the information
retrieved from your lock does not match the information in our database), it will display an error message.
You should contact your local REI office with this message for technical assistance.

If your machine is not connected to Internet:

1.

Install STAAD.Pro 2003

2.

Start the STAAD.Pro 2003 program. Make sure that your hardware lock is attached to your machine.

3.

You shall receive a message notifying you that the current lock will not work with STAAD.Pro 2003. Click
No when prompted with the question, Are you connected to Internet now?. The STAAD.Pro application
will immediately close.

4.

Go to Start | Programs | STAAD.Pro 2003 | License Administration to open the License Manager.

5.

Go to Tools | Get Hardware Lock Key from the main menu. Write down the Hardware Lock Key displayed in
the right-hand window pane.

6.

Go to Tools | Get Serial Number from the main menu. Write down the program Serial Number displayed in
the right-hand window pane.

7.

On a computer that has Internet access, go to http://www.reiworld.com/UpdateLock. Enter the Hardware

Lock Key and the Serial Number (from Steps 5 and 6) when prompted. Alternatively, contact your nearest
REI office over phone or email (support@reiusa.com) with this information.

8.

The Web site will try to generate a license file (.LDF file) as well as a unique password. If the application
encounters an error, it will display an error message. If this happens, contact your nearest REI office for
manual processing.

9.

If the process is successful, the Web site will provide a link to download the license file (.LDF). Click on this
link to save the license file (in any directory). Also, write down the password displayed on screen.

10. Take the .LDF file and the password to the machine where you have installed STAAD.Pro 2003. Make sure
that the SAME lock is attached in the back of the machine. Copy the .LDF file (in any directory) to this
machine.
11. Go to Start | Programs | STAAD.Pro 2003 | License Administration to open the License Manager once again.
Go to Update | Update Lock from the main menu. Enter the location of the .LDF file in the first edit box.
Enter the password you received in the second edit box.
12. A message box will confirm the lock update if the process was successful. You can now begin to use
STAAD.Pro 2003.
