The objectives of this assignment are to: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of important marketing terms and concepts,
2. Help your classmates learn important marketing terms and concepts, 3. Increase awareness of the important
synergies between marketing and society, and 4. Improve written and oral communication.
This assignment involves writing and orally presenting a current marketing news event that relates to the days
topic. Each student will sign up for a date and topic to present their assignment during the semester. You may
sign up individually or in pairs to present your news topic. The written assignment should be no more than one
page (not counting an optional cover page), but may include as many appendices as you wish. You should
attach at least one news article or other representation of your news item to the assignment.
The written and oral presentation should include the following components:
1. A descriptions of the news event (including who, what, when, where, and how, of course).
2. An explanation of why you selected this news events
3. Integration of important marketing definitions and concepts related to your marketing topic. Be sure to
consult the chapter that you are representing and incorporate key vocabulary and concepts.
The oral presentation will be restricted to two minutes for an individual presentation and 4 minutes for a
presentation by two people. The presentation should be polished, professional, and engaging. Use your time
judiciously and be sure that you have an informative introduction and a satisfying conclusion. You may
enhance your presentation with props.
You will receive a grade from 0 to 10 on both your written and your oral report, with 8 representing above
average and10 indicating superior performance. Your oral and written presentation will be graded according to
the rubric on the back of the assignment.
The written assignment is due on the day you present. Missing your scheduled presentation date will lead to a
grade of 0% on the assignment. Evaluation of the project will be stricter as the semester advances, since
students are expected to increasingly demonstrate informed knowledge of marketing concepts.
Please note: plagiarism of any kind (including the copying of contents from the Internet) is considered academic
dishonestly and will not be tolerated.
