Does USB OTG still work after rooting the Hudl 2? The OTG on mine is no longer working and I think the last time I tried it was before
rooting?
Yes, it works fine on rooted Hudl 2

@devbrad
Hit there! I've been trying to root my Pegatron Hudl 2 but it keeps stating this in the bootloader menu:
Quote
Quote

FASTBOOT INIT...
E:installer device (#) ignored
E:installer device ignored
FASTBOOT CMD WAITING...
E:installer device ignored
E:No valid installer medium was found.

You can ignore this........It's normal

And when i run the second command on the PC (#) it states:

< waiting for device >

And doesn't change. Please help! I look forward to hearing from you Paul (or whoever else has help) Thanks

Do you have Hudl 2 drivers installed?

On your PC (#) when adb is enabled, go to "Control Panel" - "Device Manager" on your PC and see if you have a listing for Android Phone with a
Yellow Exclaimation mark on it.
If you have, then drivers aren't installed correctly. Just right click the Exclaimation Mark, Choose "Update Drivers", Choose "Browse My
Computer (#) " then choose " Let me pick from a list " and see if you have a listing for "Android Phone", If you do, then choose it and look for an
adb listed drivers and install it.

DevBrad, I had this too and when I unplugged my cable from a USB3 port and put it into a USB2 port it worked.

Just rooted a new hudl 2 which was purchased within the last fortnight. Thankfully wasn't forced into downloading and installing any OTA
firmware updates (although a few apps were updated).Everything went like clockwork following my own updated version of how to root your
hudl 2 instructions in post #388 on page 20 until the end. With the h2 still connected (#) to desktop PC and Command Prompt window still
open, I selected reboot option pressed power button to execute. When it rebooted I got an image I've not seen before. Android bot fallen over
with a red exclamation sign above him. 'No command' written below.
Didn't panic though. Unplugged from PC, rebooted h2 and tada,,,all working as it should.
Thank God!!

Only picked up a refurb hudl 2, but couldnt get past the update screen when setting up. Tried everything such as turning off wifi, resetting to
stock with no wifi. In the end had to update, can only hope now that root is developed for the latest builds. Thanks again to the OP for the work.

Too late now but there is a thread where some bright spark found a workaround to get past the update screen.
Im guessing theres no way to revert back to a stock image of a firmware thats rootable?
Have you got a link to that thread by the way? Id be interested to just see what he did to get past it. I must have spent half an hour trying
different methods to no luck.

Is there likely to be un updated rooted image for build 20150319.222108? It would be much appreciated.

Don't hold your breath, I've noticed Paul has been somewhat quiet on the hudl2 front ever since his meeting with the Tesco Techs.
Personally I don't think the current update is worth losing root for in the first place, I for one will not be installing it. Now, if Tesco were to push
Lollipop I might consider it, a friend of mine just received a Lollipop upgrade (#) pushed by EE for his Samsung Note 4...I'm hoping that this
means others will start rolling it out (Tesco take note lol ).

Yeah... Bit late for me unfortunately. :\

Have Lollipop on my Moto G. I like it, a lot of people don't.

Paul, if you have time, could you please make a rooted image of the march update?
Many thanks
Not needed now as used "This will definitely come in useful (#) !" thread Post 4 and Post 30 and managed to root my Hudl2 with the march
update.
Note needed to use the T3 option to make cmw to work on the Hudl

From "this" in post 4 download the tool and the su update zip to a windows (#) computer.
Download the new launcher in post 30.
Unzip the tool and replace the launcher, copy the su update zip to your hudl.
Ensure drivers for adb and droid boot are installed as per this thread. Enable USB debuging from developer settings on the hudl.
Start the tool and type T3 when asked for options, the hudl should reboot to the new recovery.
Navigate this to install zip from SD card, chose the su update zip copied earlier.
Reboot

Is it safe to install TWRP using the twrp manager app if you have root? Has anyone tried it?

I can confirm this works, upgraded from a rooted Jan image to the latest March image & lost root. Followed the above guide and its now rooted.

Made a quick new user friendly guide on how to root using the latest firmware:
OK here is how to root the HUDL running the latest firmware:
Step 1: Download this zip file and unzip it: https://drive.google...iew?usp=sharing (https://drive.google.com/file/d
/0B7DAEqCL3OYua0djOHJ3c0FwbW8/view?usp=sharing)
Copy the su update zip (named UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46 in the extracted folder from step 1) to your Hudl 2s internal memory or preferably,
its microSD card. Remember where you put it!
Ensure drivers for adb are installed. Run them from the adbfastboothudl folder in the zip folder from step 1.
Enable USB debugging from developer settings on the hudl. .
If you don't know how to turn on USB Debugging, here is how:

Quote
1. Go to Settings menu on your device.
2.Go to About tablet (#) submenu.
3.Now scroll to Build Number and tap it multiple times.
4.After tapping it enough times you will see an alert saying You are now a developer/Developer mode has been enabled.
5.Now if you go to your Settings menu, you will see the developer options submenu over there.
6.Tap on the Developer options and then turn on USB Debugging.

may show a pop up asking to accept your PCs fingerprint or something like that and show a long number of random characters. Click accept.
On the next window type T3 without quotes when asked for options.
The Hudl should reboot to the new recovery which is CWM recovery. The screen should be grey and show a Hat symbol.
Navigate to install from SD Card using the volume keys and the power button is enter. Then to install zip from SD card and chose the
UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46 zip you copied earlier.
Click enter and wait.
It should reboot your hudl back to normal and it will be rooted.
*OBLIGATORY* I am not responsible for a bricked HUDL or any damage done to it. I dont know if this voids the warranty also but it shouldn't.
If you follow the guide it will be easy and hard to break your hudl.

recovery. and try and adapt this for us on OSX. If i'm successful (#) ill build a tool to help other mac users.
