The IIHMR University


Established in 1984 in Jaipur, IIHMR is the rst of its kind in India, with attention solely focused on health systems management. The University
undertakes education, training, research a nd consultancy in hospital management, health management, pharmaceutical management, rural
management and related elds of health concerns. The Institute of Health Management Research has been established as The IIHMR University vide Act
No. 3 of 2014 of the Government of Rajasthan. Hereinafter, the organisation will be addressed as The IIHMR University.
World Health Organization designated The IIHMR University as a WHO Collaborating Centre for District Health Systems based on primary
health care in South - East Asia Region, for its signic ant contribution to strengthening health systems by promoting and conducting health
policy and program management, research and capacity building. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India identied it as
institute of Excellence for training and capacity building.
The University's campus is spread over an exquisitely landscaped area of 14.37 acres with a lush green cover, characterized by stark and
majestic buildings in stone creating monumental spaces with minimal dcor. The serene ambiance has inspired students to strive for
excellence. The University is well equipped with student friendly infrastructure. The spacious campus located amidst greenery provides for the right
learning ambience.

The UGC Approval


The University Grants Commission (UGC) constituted a Committee of Experts to visit the University to carry out on the spot assessment. The Committee
visited the University on April 17-18, 2015 and submitted its report to the Commission. The Commission has ratied the recommendations of the Expert
committee on October 07, 2015 for issuance of letter of approval to the University

Dr. D. A. Henderson Library and Documentation Centre


Ddr. D.A. Henderson Library and Documentation Centre has a well-balanced collection of books, journals and other learning material. It is committed to
providing user-friendly services and easy access to facilities. The library collection is mainly focused on Health Management, Hospital Administration, Public
Health, Health Economics, Epidemiology, Population Sciences, Human Resource Management, Management Information Systems, Project Management,
Pharmaceutical Management, Rural Management, Computer Science, Procurement, Supply Chain, Economics, Finance, Health Insurance and Managed care
etc. It has a collection of more than 30400 volumes including textbooks, reference books, training material, case studies, manuals, reports and conference
proceedings. In addition, it has audio and video cassettes, over 130 national and international journals, newsletters, CD-ROM databases, from India and
abroad. The library is subscribing to Pro Quest and J-Gate e-Journals database. It has DELNET (Developing Library Network) membership, indiastat.com, and
Popline databases. The library's acquisition, cataloguing, circulation and serial control are totally computerized under Libsys Software with WebOPAC. The
library also houses Udai Pareek HRD Resource Centre.

IT Centre
The IT centre is well-equipped with state-of-the-art computing resources. The centre has adequate infrastructure and services which are available round the
clock throughout the year. It is equipped with latest servers, desktop computers, laptops, laser printers, video conferencing facility, and technically sound
software and hardware professionals. Fast speed Internet access is available with the help of dedicated lease line. Internet facility is made available to the
staff, students and training participants for external communication and for global exposure to research and training. Every student and faculty member has
an access to networked personal computer/laptop. The high speed servers running on a variety of platforms suit all kinds of requirements to support the
entire network.
Besides providing support to the ongoing activities of The University like research, teaching, training and consultancy, the centre is actively engaged in
software development for managing health programmes and hospitals effectively.

Lecture Halls
All the lecture halls are equipped with LCD projectors, required teaching aids and techniques. They are spacious and specically designed to facilitate
participative learning environment. Every lecture hall has a computer connected to the Wi-Fi network that allows the faculty to retrieve relevant information.

Hostel Facility
The IIHMR University has hostel facility on the campus for the students. The University provides spacious, well-furnished and air-cooled hostel facilities with
all modern amenities and conveniences.

Sports and Recreation Facilities


A healthy body is an abode for a healthy mind. The IIHMR University therefore conducts various sports and other recreation activities for students. The
facilities include swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis court, volleyball court, play grounds, and basket ball court, etc. The students celebrate various
functions and cultural events at The University

Working together as partners and collaborators for disseminating
information and sharing knowledge at the national and global levels is the
fundamental ethos of The University. The University has been designated as
a WHO Collaborating Centre for District Health Systems Based on Primary

It is a agship educational program which aims to develop trained
professional managers with requisite skills in planning,
implementation, operational management, diagnosis and problem
solving, consultancy, and entrepreneurship. This is with a view to
preparing them to manage hospitals and healthcare institutions
globally, both in the public and the private sectors, thus meeting the
demand for quality healthcare management.

Objectives of the Programme


The broad objective of the program is to build knowledge and skills to
perform as effective professionals in health and hospital systems,

Summer Training
At the end of the first year each student works with an organization on a
project for a period of a minimum of eight weeks. The objective is to allow
students an intense day-to-day interaction with organizations. Summer
Training provides exposure to the student in the working of an
organization in real time. It also helps students to develop managerial
skills and competencies, and facilitates an informed career choice by the
students. At the end of summer training, they will be assessed on the basis of
their performance during the period by way of a report and poster
presentation.
SECOND YEAR
In the second year, the students are required to opt for Hospital, Health,
Health Economics, Finance and Insurance, Human Resource, Procurement
and Supply Chain Management. The stream is allotted before the summer
training on the basis of merit in the rst year, aptitude and individual
preference.

Dissertation and Internship


Each student is required to submit a thesis involving personal research in
his/her area of interest. The thesis includes a critical review of literature
pertaining to the specic area of interest, data collection and analysis on
the selected problem besides other components of the thesis. The thesis
must be completed in the second year to qualify for the degree.

The University offers MBA Pharmaceutical Management. This educational programme


aims at developing trained professionals with requisite skills in planning and operating
management techniques; diagnosing and solving management problems; and acquiring
consultancy skills, with a view to preparing them to manage pharmaceutical industrial
units.

pharmaceutical management sector, it has attained the status of a premier program in the

Two Weeks of Field Work Preparation. This time will be spent on
workshops related to ethnographic and quantitative research
methods, reective writing, and perspective building.
Six Weeks of Village Stay: Students will spend time learning about
the ground realities of rural life, the changing character of the rural
economy and culture, and will use their time in the village to
document these experiences. Preliminary skills in research and
writing will be developed through these experiences.
Two Weeks of Reective and Analytical Writing on prescribed
themes: On their completion of the village stay, students will analyze
and share their ndings.
All of these experiences and ndings will be evaluated by faculty
committees at the end of the term.

Mode of Payment
Fees can be paid through DD/RTGS/NEFT and should be paid in favour
of Institute of Health Management Research payable at Jaipur by
5th of the month as per given in schedule.

Award of Degree
The following are the requirements for passing the examination and
award of the degree.
Attendance: Every student is expected to attend all the classes (not
less than 75% in any case). No unauthorized absence from eld
placement is permitted.
Examination: A student's performance will be judged in the midterm and end-term examinations. Every course carries a maximum
of 100 marks. The mid-term exam includes assignments, class
participation and written exams, whereas the end-term includes
written exams. To clear a course every student has to score a
minimum of 50% marks.
Summer Training: Summer training is an integral part of the rst
year of course. Every student in required to write a summer training
report. The students are assessed on the basis of their performance
during summer training.
Dissertation and Internship: Every student is required to undergo
internship at the end of IInd year courses and write internship report
and dissertation separately. The students are assessed on the basis
of their performance in the dissertation and internship.

Hostel Accommodation Fee


Separate hostel facility for boys and girls is available. Room rent is
payable on yearly basis as per The IIHMR University, Jaipur norms.
Fee Refund Policy
In case, a student/candidate withdraws from the course, the fee will
be refunded as per The University norms. If a candidate leaves after
commencement of the course, he/she will not be entitled for fee
refund except caution money.

The University has a fully functional Placement Cell which plays an

Placement Cell comprises of Dean, Academic and Student Affairs, as
the Faculty Advisor, Deputy General Manager (Academics), and
Assistant Manager (Academics and Placements) which acts towards
the successful arrangement of training and placements of the
students. The Placement Committee which comprises of the student
representatives from all the streams plays an important role in the

The University observes 'Zero Tolerance' policy to ragging and strict
disciplinary action will be taken against students found guilty of
maltreating freshers. Every student and parent/Guardian should
compulsorily submit a signed afdavit provided along with

Evaluation Process
Evaluation of a student's performance is a continuous process. To be
recommended for the award of the degree, students are required to
achieve a prescribed standard in the total course work, including both
mid-term and end-term examinations.

The cooperation between the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public
Health and the Indian Institute of Health Management Research combines
the School's excellence in public health education with the Institute's
expertise in health management, planning and research in Southeast Asia.
The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) will offer its
Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program in Jaipur, India, in
cooperation with the Indian Institute of Health Management Research
(IIHMR), for Indian students and those from surrounding low-and middleincome countries.
The Program is designed to enable the Students:
To Focus on public health capacity building in developing countries
To cultivate students' health management skills so that they will be
prepared to enhance the effectiveness and efciency of public health
programs and services
To prepare professionals for challenging careers in public health
management in the public and private sectors, nongovernmental
organizations (NGOs) and national and multinational organizations
Structure of the Programme (Duration 2 years)

The Master of Public Health degree program is of 80 credits. The


course work covers 74 credits. In addition, 2 credits are given for
capstone work and 4 credits are given for practicum. The course work
is divided into ve terms. All terms are taught at IIHMR campus. Both
IIHMR and JHSPH faculty
facilitates these course.
The JHSPH faculty teaches either on line or may come to IIHMR
campus. The students also visit JHSPH Baltimore for a two week course
called as Winter Institute.
The capstone work is undertaken based on the project and the eld
area covered under the project. However the practicum could be
undertaken at the place of posting after the course work is completed.
The practicum provides the opportunity to the student to gain public
health experience.
The curriculum is structured to build knowledge, develop skills and
provide exposure to real-world situations in public health. The
pedagogy in each course is selected judiciously, with an emphasis on
involving the students in learning and helping them to relate concepts
and theories to authentic public health management.
The curriculum aims to develop students' competencies in the core
areas:
Biostatistics
Epidemiology
Environmental Health Sciences
Public Health Biology
Health Management and Functional Management
Social and Behavioral Sciences
Public Policy
Ethics
The program concentration is in the area of health management, yet
also aims to cultivate multidisciplinary skills using systems
management principles and communication, pieces that are central to
the practice of public health.
Special emphasis is placed on practical training, with the requirement
of a signicant practicum experience in population-based health. In
addition, a capstone project provides the opportunity for students to
synthesize, integrate and apply their new skills and competencies to a
public health problem.

beyond the bachelor's/master's degree (unless the applicant has
