Special Guidelines for LS0H/HFFR/LSF sheathed cables

Cables with sheath/ jacket made from LS0H (low smoke zero halogen) materials do not have the same
mechanical strength as other sheath material, particularly at higher temperatures.
These materials are also referred to as HFFR (halogen free flame retardant) or LSF (low smoke & fume).
These are special products produced with the highest material quality for fire performance and safety.
However to have such improved fire characteristics LS0H cable typically has different mechanical properties
than PVC or PE sheathed cable.
We therefore recommend the following special guidelines to be used in conjunction with the standard
installation instructions.

Storage and Installation

The cables should be stored in shade and avoiding direct exposure to sun.

Installation should be undercover or indoors. For outdoor installation, direct exposure to

sunlight should be avoided by using a suitable covered cable tray or conduit.

As LS0H has lower tear strength property as compared to typical PVC/PE material, special care
should be taken during installation to avoid any damage. Even a small cut on the LS0H sheath
will result in sheath cracking, as it will easily extend due to lower tear strength property of LS0H
sheath.

Use pay in rollers and corner rollers of a non-metallic material (e.g. Nylon or Teflon) at least
every 3 to 4 meters while laying the cable.

If any pulling greases or lubricants are used, the installer must ensure compatibility with the
sheath material.

Do not pull the cable directly from the sheath, ensure that the pulling force is distributed
through the conductor or armour metallic parts, preferably with pulling eye or cable grip.

The cables should not be in contact with any hot surface, or more than the recommended
installation temperature.

When cable tray installation is used, avoid the sheath contact with any sharp objects.

The requirement of minimum bending radius should be followed as per data sheet.

Any clamping device should not be applied directly on the outer sheath. There should be some
cushion (for instance a rubber pad of approx. 3 mm thickness) between the cables outer
surface and clamps.

Re-winding
In case re-winding should be necessary, extreme caution should be taken during the process to avoid
damage.
The following should be adhered to:

The winding should be done equally and uniformly with no over-riding of the coils or pinching
on the sides of the drum.

The pay-off drum should have an adequate braking system to prevent the cable from coming
loose on the drum.
