Life on this beautiful planet God made for us has endless possibilities, and it can be overwhelming if we dont have a focus. When deciding how to pattern our lives, we can focus on what we want, what others want to impose on us, or what God has in mind for us. If we lack understanding on what His will is for our lives, we can go around in circles endlessly, never finding what we seek. But discerning Gods will is no mystery when we take a close look at His Word. Its a big world out there, and an even bigger universe. With a mindset of Ill do everything by myself, its hard to know where to start. Most people have this way of thinking, and it brings them nothing but frustration and stress. When we study the Scriptures, learning the priorities that matter to God opens our mind and frees us from self-effort. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2). We dont have to live by someone elses standards or make up the rules as we go, hoping were doing it right. The Bible is our blueprint for life, the guideline for every situation we find ourselves in, and the owners manual God wrote for us. The directions are all clearly spelled out on each page. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). Gods will is for us to be perfected and made righteous through Him, something we could never do on our own. He wants us to be happy, successful, prosperous, victorious over any evil circumstances that can pop up unexpectedly, and strong enough to achieve our dreams. That seems like an awful lot to expect from life, and the thought of accomplishing this ourselves is a tall order. But Gods thoughts are favorable toward us. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11, NKJV). Things start looking pretty bright when we begin discovering Gods plans for us. When we earnestly ask Him for guidance on what path in life He wants us to take, Hell answer through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit reveals Gods will, which is specific to each individual, and He cuts through confusion to bring clarity to our mind. Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things (2 Timothy 2:7). Following His lead is like watching an expert quickly piece together a jigsaw puzzle we could never complete without His help. Most people go through life trying to compete with others, struggling to be noticed when theyre just a nameless face in a large crowd. But God, Who knew us even before we were born, sees each and every one of us as the unique individual He personally fashioned Himself. Once we realize His plan for us and bring ourselves into agreement with Him, what once perplexed us will make perfect sense. Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees. I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes (Psalm 119:124, 125, NIV). We succeed only when we depend on Him.
