Outcomes
Content Standard
The learners can:
1. show the relationship of the sides of the triangle to develop
Pythagorean
Theorem ;
2. state and explain Pythagorean Theorem;
3. find missing sides of right triangles using Pythagorean
Theorem.
Performance Standard
The students can solve real life problems using Pythagorean Theorem.
Essential Questions
1. What are the applications of Pythagorean Theorem?
2. What is the relationship among the lengths of the sides of a right
triangle?
3. How can Pythagorean Theorem be used to solve problem in life?
II.
Assessment
Evidence of Understanding
Explanation
Illustrate the relationships of the sides of right triangles.
Interpretation
The learners can identify the area of the given figures and
demonstrate the Pythagorean Theorem.
Application
The learners can solve real life problems using Pythagorean
Theorem.
III. Learning Plan
A. Explore
Group activity
The class will be divided into 5 groups. Each group will have 8
members. The group will work together to complete the activity.
Direction:
Draw a triangle with given sides (a, b, c) in a bond paper and supply
the table after measuring its angle. Use ruler and protractor to measure its
length and angles respectively.

After completing the table, the students will be asked by the following
questions:
1. Do the given sides form a triangle?
2. What relationship did you observed on the sides of a right triangle after
squaring it?
a. Follow- up question. What does c2 = a2 + b2 means?
3. Do you think Pythagorean Theorem also works on a triangle which is not
right? Why or Why not?
4. Refer to the right triangles on the table. Do they prove that Pythagorean
Theorem is true? Why or Why not?
5. Can we use this method to prove that the theorem is true? Why or Why
not?

The students will be asked by the following questions:

1. How the diagrams illustrate the Pythagorean Theorem?
2. What is the area of the two big squares? Does this help to prove the
theorem?
[A = ( a + b )2]
3. What is the area of the right triangles?
( A = ab )
4. If we removed the four triangles, what would be the area of the remaining
figure/s?
a.
A = a2 + b2
b. A = c2
5. What is the relationship between the area of the big squares and the area
of the right triangles plus the remaining figure?
a. [ (a + b)2 = 4( ab ) +( a2 + b2) ]

b. [ (a + b)2 = 4( ab ) + c2]
6. What is the relationship of the areas of the two figures? Write it in
algebraic form.
[4( ab ) +( a2 + b2)] = [ 4( ab ) + c2 ]
7. What property of equality we are going to use?
(by the use of addition property of equality; c2 = a2 + b2 )
8. What does c2 = a2 + b2 mean?
(This means that the sum of squares of the legs of a right triangle is
equal to the square of the hypotenuse.)
9. Now that we have proven that theorem is true, how can we use it?
10. How can we use Pythagoras` Theorem to work on the side length other
than the
hypotenuse?
Another proof will be presented through video presentation.
C. Deepen
Group Activity
With same groupings, the group will work together to answer the
given set of questions.
Direction:
Answer the following problems using
Illustrate the diagram and show your solution.

Pythagorean

Theorem.

1. ABC is a right triangle with segment AC as the hypotenuse. If segment

AB is 8 cm and AC is 10 cm, find segment BC.
2. Find the length of the hypotenuse given that the legs of a right triangle
are 6 ft and 12 ft.
3. Mary wants to get a computer monitor for her desk which can hold a
22 inch monitor. She has found a monitor 16 inches wide and 10 inches
high. Will the computer fit into Marys cabin?
4. Mr. Santos wants to purchase a suitcase. The shopkeeper tells Mr.
Santos that he has a 30 inch of suitcase available at present and the
height of the suitcase is 18 inches. Calculate the actual length of the
suitcase for Mr. Santos.
5. Painters use ladders to paint on high buildings and often use the help
of Pythagoras' theorem to complete their work. Take for example a
painter who has to paint a wall which is about 8 m high. The painter
has to put the ladder 6 m away to avoid a rack in between. What will
be the length of the ladder required by the painter to complete his
work?
D. Transfer
1. Form a group of 3 members and think of at least 3 real- life
situations where Pythagorean Theorem can be applied. Formulate problems
out of this situation and solve each. Present your findings to the class.
2. Research for the other proofs of Pythagorean Theorem and present it
to the class.
