Assignment #1
Answer all the questions. Show all work neatly and clearly. Adhere to the usual notations.

Q1.
(a) Draw the r-parameter equivalent circuit of a transistor (used in a common emitter configuration),
and label all transistor ac parameters of this equivalent circuit. (ii) Explain how the transistor ac internal
emitter-resistance re (of the r-parameter transistor equivalent circuit) can be computed from the
current dc bias conditions. (iii) Define and explain the transistor current gain parameters DC and AC,
and explain their differences.
(b) Draw the complete and simplified hybrid h-parameter equivalent circuit of a transistor (used in a
common emitter configuration), and label all transistor ac parameters of this equivalent circuit.

Q2.
(a) Determine the dc bias conditions IB, IC, VCE of the amplifier circuit shown in Figure 1. (b) What would
the ac emitter-resistance parameter re be (based on dc bias conditions)? (c) Determine the midfrequency voltage gain (Avs = vout/vs) of this amplifier circuit. (d) Determine the input impedance seen by
the input source. For part c and d you may assume that the transistor ac emitter resistor (internal)
re is given. Use the r-parameter transistor equivalent-circuit model. State any assumptions you make.
