Eden Square (87x79)

Ingredients

1 Jelly roll
1 Charm pack
1 yd (35” of useable fabric) 1st and 3rd border
1 ¼ yard outer border fabric
¾ yard binding

Cutting

From each Jelly strip cut two 5” strips and two 9” strips

Set aside all but two sets of the remaining strips. Most Jelly rolls have several duplicate fabrics, use
these, especially if they are in the colour group of you border fabrics.

From each of these four strips cut one 5” and one 10” strip.

The remaining strips will be used to make the pieced border.

From the fabric for borders 1 and 3 cut (14) 2.5”xWOF

For the outer border cut (8) 5”xWOF

Separate strips and charms in two groups, I did white and pink (Group A) as one group and green, yellow
and purple, Group B. This will give a nice balance of colours.

Sewing Blocks

Sew one 5” strip from Group A onto either side of one charm square Group B. Repeat until all charms
are used. Sew one 5” strip from Group B onto either side of one charm square Group A. Repeat until all
charms are used.
Press away from the charm square.

Sew the matching 9” strips to the long sides of the block.

Repeat until all 42 blocks are done. Each block should measure 9” square.

Sew into a 6x7 setting. I alternated Group A and Group B blocks.

Border 1

Sew two of the 2.5 x WOF strips together on a miter. Press. Repeat so you have two long strips.
Measure your quilt so far. Trim the strip to that length, 52” was my measurement. Sew on the short
sides first. Take the strip that you trimmed from the long strips and sew it onto another 2.5xWOF. This
should measure 64.5”. Measure your quilt and the strip to make sure it will fit. Sew on, and press away
from the center.

Pieced Border

Sew all the remaining strips from the jelly roll together along the length. Make sure one side of the strip
set is even, the other will be trimmed so it’s ok that they won’t all line up perfectly. Because of the size I
trimmed/subcut after about 8 strips and then attached them to create the very long border strips, if you
want to sew all the pieces together and then sub cut that is ok too.
Subcut (4) 3.5” strips, these are your pieced border. Attach to the long sides first. Measure and trim and
attach to the short side. Press toward the center. You want the pieced border to be flat like this.
Border 3
Sew two of the 2.5 x WOF strips together on a miter. Press. Repeat so you have two long strips.
Measure your quilt so far. Trim the strip to that length and attach, starting with the short sides. Again
measure for the long sides. Attach and press away from the pieced border.

Outer Border
For the outer border measure and cut (8) 5” xWOF strips. Sew two strips together and trim to the
measure of the long sides. Sew along the long sides first. Then measure and cut for the short sides.
Attach and press away from the border.
