Management and Organisational Behaviour

Assessment Three

Our group presentation is the redundancy problems when company changing. Our
strategy is based on Kotters eight steps to solve the problem which Hyperion Mining
service facing. Each step is a realistic solution through the exchange and analysis of
problems in the company's transformation. When redundancy problem come out, the
operation management should try to avoid these problems. This strategy makes the
retrenched employees receive proper treatment. For those survivors, what are the
reasons for they can keep continue to stay in the company and they should cherish this
opportunity.

Teamwork
This group presentation working through over a month, our group makes twice
meeting in one week. It is good for each group member can catch the time for the
meeting. In the beginning of this assignment, the first things for each group member
try to find out more support references for this presentation. I found five articles for
support our presentations. For this presentation, our group made two important
changes during the process.
Firstly, it is changing strategy. Our original strategy was not based on Kotters eight
steps; original strategy came from our meeting at the first week. But when we
working harder on the case study, our group found the original strategy is not enough
for solve the redundancy problem. We need a more powerful strategy to solve
problem. Fortunately, our group leader point out a very good strategy - Kotters eight
steps. It can better solve the redundancy problem based on the strategy.
Secondly, it is making the group video. It is not my first time to make the video, I
have some experience to make video before this unit. The video is making from real
cases, it is about Australia TOYOTA. All team members are working hard during
shoot the video. In order to express the case event in the best way, our group have a
long time discussion. Finally, we determined the way to show the video in news
mode. All team members are very positive performances during make the video. The
video cost our whole day; we recorded video more than three times in each part. Then

I choose the best part for the video try to make the video more professional. Making
this video, our whole team pay a lot of time and effort.
Teamwork is a process. It can use all the resources the team members, team members
can make the team even more closely together to complete the task, but will give the
team an adequate return. Teamwork should be someone "willing to cooperate with
you," as the basis, and you should show your co motives, and any change in
partnership holding vigilant attitude. Teamwork is a never-ending process, although
the success of cooperation depends on the attitude of the members (Smith 2000, 13);
however, to maintain cooperative relations between members are our duty-bound to
work. In the pursuit of personal success in the process, we cannot do without
teamwork. Nobody is omnipotent. However, we can rely on each other through the
establishment of relations between people, through the help of others, to make up for
their shortage. For the team, partners of friendship and mutual cooperation are
essential. For the team, friendly and mutual cooperation between the partners is
essential. No matter what kind of person, they can base on their own personality
charm to support of partners. In this way, we can achieve common individual and
team success. It is a team let us learn tolerance, understanding and I have learned
solidarity and tolerance from this teamwork.

Leadership
In our group, everyone works hard when we focus on the assignment. However I am
not a group leader, but I have learn from our group leader.
Firstly, Team members should play a proactive role. Group like a pyramid, each
person is important, no matter where you stand, all team members, should fully play a
team function.
Secondly, for Role Conversion, as a leader, take your time and effort put in on top of
the following three things: first, thinking decision; second, the team's work plan; and
third, the good staff education. Then, assign the task is completed, so that team
members play their autonomy, thinking and cooperative.

Thirdly, free-riding and low levels of motivation are not appearing in our team. All
members cooperate very well.

Cultural
Our group is an international group, our group have five members and they come
from four different countries. Cultural differences make our team work met some
problems. Everyone has their own ideas in the group work. For example: Members
experience and skills, insufficient English language skills, culturally different styles of
decision making and problem solving. The student populations of universities
throughout the world are increasingly multicultural. After graduation a large number
of today's students will work in international groups as part of their future professions.
Therefore, the ability to work effectively in culturally heterogeneous groups should be
an integral part of a student's competence (Popov and Brinkman 2012, 305). However,
the Working Group included in higher education, particularly in a multicultural
environment, creating both challenges in coordination students with different
communication skills, potential benefits in terms of sharing knowledge of
multiculturalism.

From the Kotters 8 steps change process

Kotter believes that change is made up of several stages, trying to skip some stages
will only lead to failure; committed a serious mistake at any stage will slow down the
process of change, and even make changes fall short. He will be divided into eight
stages of organizational change.
He also believes that in the process of change, there are two particularly important:
First, there must be conscious explain to employees, new methods, new behaviour and
new attitudes for how to improve the performance of the company played a role.
Second, enterprises should ensure succession management team can really represent
the new behaviour. Inappropriate choice of his successor may make the company
change efforts are wasted for 10 years.
Management is not leadership, this simple idea that people today can be better
understood, but it is not enough to understand for people. Management make a system

is running. It helps people know how they finish things. Leading to establish a new
system, or change from the old system. It leads people into the new field, which is in a
rapidly changing world has a huge inspiration.
Nowadays, I am fully convinced that the lack of adequate and overall sense of
urgency, you want to respond to the challenge of change is not possible. With a year
or longer, the change did not produce visible results, those experienced, very smart
leader failed - they give the necessary, meanwhile mistakes slowly began to emerge.
These trends require companies have more flexible and more adapt to change, so that
people can have a stronger leadership. Not only from senior managers, but also for
everyone who will need to develop the ability to innovate in the company.

Redundant
Simply cut the number decreased rapidly Cut spending can have short terms have a
great advantage on medium and long-term result that may have more than any
benefits.
When employees make a decision to reduce its direct contribution to the bottom line
is a factor not only employees are important, and their experience, skills and
commitment. Moreover, another thing is to think about the potential redundancy
costs. If the company loss affect the overall productivity of skilled staff, the impact on
company morale. Thus, all factors from the redundancy that will affect the short and
long-term sustainable development of enterprises.
Management needs to use objective criteria to select the layoff in order to avoid any
risk of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or disability, which is very
important. Redundant recording assessment process and dismissal procedure will
ensure that company is ready to deal with any legal challenge might fall empty.
Openness and fairness of the dismissed employees and a business ethics and treatment
will affect the security of the rest of the staff, and may bigly affect their motivation.
Pay attention to the problem of redundancy

1. Note that the layoffs flexible and user-friendly operation, companies tend to adopt
highly confidential exit interviews beforehand shorter, limited short-term leave and
other measures. Lack of flexibility and user-friendly embodiment of the conflict will
inevitably lead to layoffs; employees lose confidence, and even lead to resentment or
controversy.
2. "Replace" the interests of employees can easily process the transaction has been
trampled and ignored the layoffs, and even employees walk away, turning a blind eye.
The companies cannot protect their own interests, dismissed employees likely to
breed enmity psychological and companies are lack of moral, reputation could
damage from this affected.
To sum up, from the assignment three, the group presentation is a very good way for
our student to get work in a group. Group presentation is not only for one person, but
also for a whole team. We made a video in a good cooperation during our meeting. I
have learnt lot knowledge from the teamwork. From the Kotters 8 steps, we use the
strategy to solve redundancy. But for company, manager must also know how to avoid
an enterprise redundancy. A good business should make a risk plan before redundancy
happen.
