Title: The Nurses Holistic Approach According to Clients

Introduction
The Problem
One of the responsibilities of nurses is to render a holistic
approach and care to the client in any setting of health care system. It
involves of understanding the whole aspect of a person which includes
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual capabilities. It is also to
adhere not only one phase but the entire being of an individual which
will prompt the nursing interventions and management.
Nursing is based on an art and science that mold the attitudes,
intellectual competencies, and technical skills of the individual nurse
into the desire and ability to help people, sick or well cope with their
health needs, (Abdellah, pg. 71). Nurses should have the passion of
caring for the patient regardless of the place or setting and social
economic status of the client. The sick people need to be assessed and
intervened according to the nurses capabilities of giving care which
sufficient knowledge and skills of the nurse are necessary. It should be
delivered evenly no matter what are the social economic status
background of the client because theres no prioritization according to
income when the patient seek for clinical and medical help. Health care
providers bias and stereotyping contribute to health disparities among
marginalized and vulnerable populations ( Crowe, 2012)
Currently, nursing approaches to client in the hospital settings is
a threat to the health care system. It appeared that nurses are more
concern to the client which are economically wealthy than the client
who are poor and indigent. The holistic approach of the nurses results
to ineffective caring of the client because their social economic status
has an impact reflecting to the nurses way of giving care and
interventions. The behaviors and attitudes of nurses towards the
nursing process resulted into different approach other than caring a
well to do client. It is also a problem on how the nurses treated the
client with insufficient educational background since it implicates the
nurses that the client knows nothing about their job and
responsibilities in giving services.
A persons health has a pervasive influence on a persons life. Health is
a central pillar in a persons life but it is also influenced by all aspects
of that persons life. One pivotal aspect in this reciprocal relationship is

the persons socio-economic status. Grim (2003:1) A higher

educational level results in higher income levels, which in turn
improves health status. Botha (2010:143)
OBJECTIVES:

Determine the nurses attitude regarding to clients socioeconomic

status

To compare public and private nurses attitude in rendering care

To identify the prioritization of nursing care in emergency setting

with regards to socioeconomic status of the patient
