Montage
Description
A montage based on a spiritual quote
Program
Photoshop
Objective
Learn to use layer masking
Process
To make this piece, I first found a quote I
wanted to illustrate, then gathered images
that matched my idea sketches. Once I had
those, I pasted them into separate layers and
made the necessary corrections. Some of the
images only needed minimal masking, while
others needed more in-depth adjustment.
I also added colored pencil and lighting
filters to different layers to give it an
tradtional media illustration look.

Objective
Learn to work with vector graphics
Process
For this project, I sketched several ideas for
a logo for my artwork. They used a bird/
feather motif. After settling on the best three,
I put them together in Illustrator, using the
pen tool, the brush tool, and the text tool.
Once I had the three, I picked the one I
thought was most promising and made a
grey-scale and dark-background version.

Business Card
Description
A business card for a professional
Program
Illustrator, InDesign
Objective
Learn to practically apply a logo
Process
For this piece, I first created the logo in
Illustrator. I chose Trois Feuilles, which
means three leaves in French, as the name
for a fake company. I wanted to create a
clean, professional look, so I used simple
lines and inviting cool colors. I repeated the
colors and shapes across the front and the
back of the design to create cohesion.

Objective
Learn to practically apply a logo
Process
This project goes with the business card on
the previous pages. Theyre meant to be for
the same business. The letterhead repeats
the same elements I used in the business
card, placed in slightly different order to
accomodate the addtional information
included on the letterhead. I wanted to keep
the letterhead simple, covering a minimal
amount of the page.

Objective
Learn to put a basic design together in
InDesign
Process
For this project, we were given the pictures
and the text to include, as if we were
working for an actual client. I wanted to
emphsize the word graduate because I
felt it was most important to the message.
Knowing that, and which picture I wanted
to use, I sketches desgins around those
elements. I used just black, white, and one
shade of gray to keep it simple.

Objective
Learn to create a design in Word and use
scanned pictures
Process
Once I decided what I wanted my fake event
to be, I looked through books in library
to find an image that matched. I took the
triangular shape of the dogs bandana and
repeated it throughout the design. I wanted
the diagonal lines to make it dynamic and
fun. I chose a split-complementary color
scheme using the red and lime from the
image, and added turquoise to complete it.

Program
Notepad ++, Illustrator
Objective
Learn the basics of HTML and CSS
Process
For this project, I started with the provided
HTML template and inserted my written
content and logo. The logo I used came from
the earlier logo project. After checking
the code for errors, I attached the CSS
file to change the appearance. I matched
the colors to the logo and moved the
elements around to make them easier to
read. I also changed the fonts and outlines.

Objective
Learn to use layer masking
Process
I went out and took several photos. I picked
the one I liked the best and adjusted it for
light and color. I found a quote the matched
and arranged it around the photo. The
dashed lines are meant to mimic the slats in
the gazebo.
