Homework- Sem II

1. One paragraph describing the political system of your country

Politics of Romania takes place in a framework of a semipresidential representative democratic republic, whereby the Prime Minister of Romania is
the head of government and the President of Romania exercises the functions of head of
state. Romania has

a multi-party

system. Executive

power is

exercised

by

the

government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the two chambers of
parliament, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The judiciary is independent of the
executive and the legislature. Romania's 1991 constitution, amended in 2003 proclaims
Romania a democratic and social republic, deriving its sovereignty from the people. It also
states that "human dignity, civic rights and freedoms, the unhindered development of human
personality, justice, and political pluralism are supreme and guaranteed values.

2. Your opinion related to "monarchy" (versus republic)

The present Romanian political system has resulted from a quest for the model on which
Romanias social and political modernization had to be engineered. Such modernization was
to be forged in relation to a Western democratic model, but had to be implemented in a state
with a strong Oriental and pre-modern legacy. This is the context where we endeavour to
analyse the underlying philosophy of the Romanian government model, which vacillated
between monarchy as a successful model in Europe and republican influences.
In case a referendum would be organized with the option to choose between republic and
monarchy, more than a half of Romanians would remain loyal to the republican option, while
les would vote for monarchy, according to a recent survey conducted by Inscop.
When it comes to monarchy, big part of Romanians aged between 18 and 30 would choose
this form of government, this also being the choice for those aged between 31 and 50 and
some of people aged over 50.

From my point of view, when it comes to choose between monarchy and republic, I would
tend to chose monarchy, firstly because of my last name, which has royal roots and gave me
the feeling of belonging to a family with blue blood and secondly, because in high school and
even in college too, there were presented more positive aspects of monarchy than those about
republic.

3. An interview with a politician/ a candidate maybe (4-5 questions will do).

Interview with Mrs. Ana Birchall, Member of Romanian Parliament, President of the
European Affairs Commission, Chamber of Deputies ,High Representative of the Government
on EU Affairs :
Me: Hello, mrs. Birchall ! Thank you for according me this interview !
Mrs. Birchall :It is my pleasure, dear !
Me : I would like to know what is your attitude over the high level of emigration from
Romania to other countries.
Mrs. Birchall : Well.. this problem makes me so sad and worried, at the same time, because I
am one of the Romanians who left the country for studying at Yale University, but as you can
see, I returned, trying to make a positive change in this country.
Me: Why does it make you sad ?
Mrs. Birchall : I consider it is not a smart choice leaving the country and going to work for
others, making their dreams come true, instead of working for your own dreams, when here,
in our country are so many opportunities.
Me: How is that ? I did not hear so often people who say : you can find a lot of opportunities
in Romania.
Mrs. Birchall : Well.. I honestly can say this, because here are so many domains which are
not explored or used as they can or should be. When it comes to go working in other
developed countries, all Romanian emigrants do is to do their best in helping others living
their dream while theyre limiting their horizons.
Me: Thank you so much, Mrs. Ana Birchall for your time!

Mrs. Birchall : It is always a pleasure to collaborate with students !

In the noble sense politics is seen as an activity that shows itselfindividual dignityIn
matter of that politics is the art to rule a human community- Art within the meaning of the
ancient word, as a technique. It is a noble purpose because manages to produce communities
government beyond what separates them, beyond their internal divisionsfor that internal
fractures are exceeded and a community may survive, that is in other words, it may be
reunited under a proper name Meaning of pejorative or deprecatory sense of politics makes
it the most indecent appearance of human life.
According to this point of view, politics is dominated by corruption, in it the most
shameful acts can occur, those are the acts that regard the most unbearable of endeavors.
Therefore politics emerges as being the worst influence for the existence of individuals, a
dirty and degrading activity that is filled with empty words, something you should keep well
