Global Chalice Lighting for April 2016

ICUU announces the 152st in its monthly global chalice lighting readings. Congregations worldwide are invited to
use the reading for at least one worship service in the designated month, identifying it as the ICUU Global
Chalice Lighting for that month. This Global Chalice Lighting was originally submitted by the UnitarischUniversalistisches Forum Austria.

ENGLISH:

We live in a time of science, we try very hard to understand the world around us and

think that by doing so we can solve the miracle at the root of our existence. As
humanity reaches out for the farthest stars should we not reach out as well for

something very near and still in our life often farther than the farthest speck on the
firmament: to the heart of our fellow human beings? The flame we are lighting now

shall be a beacon in the darkness that separates us. It shall not only help us in uniting

Unitarian-Universalists across the world but strengthen the treasured, miraculous bond
between all people that exists since the beginning of time.

Nous vivons une poque o les sciences sont dveloppes et o nous

essayons, certes avec difficult, de comprendre le Monde qui nous entoure en

esprant rsoudre le miracle qui est lorigine de notre existence. Alors que

lHumanit atteint des toiles de plus en plus lointaines, ne devrions-nous pas

tout aussi bien atteindre les choses les plus proches, celles de nos vies alors

que celles-ci nous apparaissent souvent aussi loignes que le plus lointain des
grains du firmament : comment atteindre le cur de nos semblables ? La

flamme que, maintenant, nous allumons, puisse-t-elle tre un phare dans

lobscurit qui nous spare. Quelle nous aide non seulement nous unir dans
le monde entier, en tant quunitariens et universalistes, mais aussi quelle

renforce ce lien si prcieux et miraculeux qui unit tous les peuples depuis le
dbut des temps.

Wir leben in einer Zeit der Wissenschaft, wir versuchen angestrengt die Welt um uns

herum zu verstehen und so das Rtsel an der Wurzel unserer Existenz zu lsen. Jetzt, wo
die Menschheit nach den fernsten Sternen greift, sollten wir da nicht auch nach etwas

greifen, das uns so nahe scheint und doch in unseren Leben oft ferner ist als der fernste
Fleck am Firmament: nach den Herzen unserer Mitmenschen? Die Flamme, die wir nun
entznden, soll uns ein Leuchtfeuer sein in der Dunkelheit, die uns trennt. Es soll uns
nicht nur untersttzen in der weltweiten Vereinigung der Unitarier und Universalisten

sondern das wertvolle, wundervolle Band strken, das alle Menschen von jeher verbindet.

Vivimos en la era de la ciencia, nos esforzamos para entender el mundo alrededor nuestro y
pensamos que al hacerlo podremos resolver el milagro del inicio de nuestra existencia. As como
la humanidad busca alcanzar las estrellas ms lejanas, No deberamos alcanzar de igual manera
algo ms cercano pero que a menudo est ms lejos que la luz ms lejana del firmamento: el
corazn de otros seres humanos? Esta llama que encendemos hoy ser un faro de luz en la
oscuridad que nos separa. No solo seguir uniendo Unitarios Universalistas alrededor del mundo,
sino que fortalecer el maravilloso y milagroso lazo que conecta a todos los seres humanos, y
que existe desde el comienzo de los tiempos.
