A low Carbon Building is a building that uses less electricity, because less electricity
consumption means less CO2 emissions at the power plant to produce electricity.
A coal fired power plant emits 1000 gram CO2 to produce one kWh of electricity
A gas fired power plant emits only 500 gram CO2 to produce one kWh of electricity
With the Malaysian fuel mix for power production, 650 gram CO 2 to produce one kWh of
electricity
If the electricity consumption of a building is reduced by 50%, then the carbon
emissions related to that building is also reduced by 50%. The carbon footprint is
reduced by 50%.
