Using the digital media prepared from Task 1, write the application of media

in a teaching session for a topic in a primary school subject based on the

ASSURE Model.
The use of technology within the curriculum requires careful
planning and thought regarding how it will be integrated into and used
within the classroom. To assist the educational practitioner in effectively
integrating technology into the everyday curriculum, the ASSURE Model
was developed. The ASSURE Model involves consideration of 6 areas of
analysis for creation of effective lesson plans employing technology. It
contains six steps that is analysis of student characteristics, state teaching
and learning objectives, select

strategy, technology and

appropriate

media, use of technology, materials and the media of teaching and

learning, engage students in the learning process, and value as well as
review the effectiveness of teaching and learning.

1.0 Analyse learner

Before a teacher embarking on a teaching and learning, she needs
to know the common individualities of the pupils such as age, level, pupils
background and others. Pupils in year 5 classroom they have been
exposed to computer since standard 2 in ICT class. Through these
information, I will able to use suitable technology and provide teaching
materials and media based on past experience of pupils. For an example,
before plan a lesson teacher should know for which standard the lesson is.
Hence, I have chosen standard five syllabus for teach standard five pupils.
Pupil in standard 5 proficiency level is intermediate and advanced level. The
topic that I have chosen peer pressure which is in the World of Stories
theme based on KSSR. Next, knowledge about students learning styles
allows teachers to conduct classes with more effective way and successful
in teaching and learning. Therefore, I choose computer laboratory to
conduct teaching and learning at there. This is because some pupils prefer
to learn on their own, some like to discuss with friends or in groups, some
like to learn in a quiet and calm place, some like to learn in the bright room,
some like to learn while listening to music, some like to learn by
observation and research so in this case pupils can use all this method in

learning at laboratory. All preferences are suitable to use in computer

laboratory.

2.0 State objectives (teaching and learning)

Learning makes a difference in terms of mastery of the knowledge,
skills and behaviour. In addition, what is learned should have clear
objectives and concrete learning objectives that can be measured at the
end of the teaching and learning stage. It can help teachers to evaluate to
what extent the learning objectives or skills that have been defined can be
mastered by pupils. Therefore, my objectives for this learning is based on
KSSR:
3.1
By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils
Content Standard

will be able to form letters and words in neat legible

print including cursive writing.
3.1.1
Able to write in neat legible print with correct
spelling:

Learning Standard

(a)

sentences

(b)

paragraphs

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. list down at least three characteristics of
each character in groups based on video
display.
Learning
Outcomes

2. write at least five simple sentences on the

character that they like in the story based
on the interactive power point.
3. choose

the

correct

ending

and

give

justification by writing at least three simple

sentences in educational blog.

3.0 Select technology, Strategies, media and materials

The

selection

of

technology

should

be

based

on

pupils

characteristics and their learning styles. At the same time, teachers need to
think about the accessibility of the material and resources to be used.
Criteria to consider technology flexibility based on the activity to be
undertaken. Pupil in my classroom is visual and auditory learners. Hence, I
consider this lesson to carry out in computer laboratory where there are a
lot of computer for every pupil to access and there is LCD and projector
which can display the power point slides for every pupil to see clearly.
Computer technology is appropriate in project activity, presentation,
simulation and so on. Select appropriate methods for teaching and learning
there are more than one method used in the learning process. For
example, I have chosen brainstorming method to be used during question
and answer session. I chose also visualising method where pupil can
imagine the ending of the story through video clips. Next, select appropriate
media format on the method chosen. Media format refers to how forms of
information displayed. For an example of media formats that I have used is
such as video clips in set induction, interactive power point slides and
educational blog.
For video clips I have choose picture from Internet because my
video is based on a story entitled Sand and stone. Therefore, I need some
pictures such as desert, oasis where I cannot take it daily life so I
downloaded it from internet. Then I add some soothing music in video this
is because to attract pupil who are auditory learners. I edit this video in
video pad and upload it in YouTube and insert in my educational blog so
that pupils can view very easily.
Next, I prepare interactive power point slides using hyperlink to
teach the pupils. Hyperlink usage make me easy to conduct Question and
Answer section with pupils. I use big Font size Century Gothic 72 which is
clear for pupils to see and read. I never use dark colours in slides because
pupils will be unable to see the Font and pictures.

I also prepare own educational blog which is suitable for pupils

proficiency level for teach them through the blog. This is because
sometimes pupils will unable to concentrate in classroom therefore I create
educational blog for them to learn every day. I post questions in the blog for
pupils to answer so that pupils can easily evaluate through the blog.

4.0 Utilize technology, media and materials (use of technology,

materials and the teaching and learning media)
Use of resource material has to be accurate, timely and at the right place.
The following steps have to be checked before using the resource
materials. First I checked the resource material that I want to use such as
interactive power point slides and educational blog before using in the
classroom. I do preview in my own and check with school computer
laboratory whether the three media can display or not. Moreover, I also
prepare materials such as worksheets for use in the classroom. Next, I
chose computer laboratory for provide pupils environment for optimal use. I
have to prepare pupils emotionally and physically for maximum benefit
such as they are able to access the internet. Then, by viewing educational
blog pupils have to answer questions in educational blog, I provide learning
experiences for pupils through internet in this digital age. Lastly, in video
preparation I inserted important element such as soothing background
music, captions which will arouse pupils attention during teaching session.

5.0 Require learner participation

Teachers can plan teaching and learning sessions involving students
through pupil centred methods. One example on student-centred activity is
the project work where requires pupils active participation. Therefore, I
choose to update everyday lesson in educational blog where pupil can
access anytime and anywhere.

This will motivate pupils and enable

teachers to measure changes in pupils behaviour. Other than that, in

interactive power point I insert questions section for pupils to understand
the story very well and to involve pupils active participation. By answering
the questions in power point pupils indirectly doing the brainstorming
method. Teacher should be aware with the criterions which encourage

students participation in teaching session so the classroom environment

will be more effective and active.

6.0 Evaluate and revise

Evaluation during and after the teaching and learning enable
teachers to make improvements and corrections, and conduct appropriate
follow-up action through the practice of reflection. Hence, I prefer every
pupil after view the educational blog they can give comments about lesson
of the day. They can also revise in that blog in anytime. It will make easy for
them to learn. Evaluation involves the aspects of evaluating students
achievement

based

on

students achievement

based

on

student

performance which consistent with learning objectives and the teaching

methods used for teaching session. The aspects of evaluation occur
throughout the teaching and learning process and it is to ensure the
appropriateness of media and resources of students ability. The elements
which would be evaluated by using the media are the learning outcomes
and ad objectives whether it has been achieved by pupils or not can be
done by observing students learning behavior. Education blog makes the
evaluation easy because every comments that pupils do the computer will
jot down the date and time which able the teacher to be alert and can
monitor pupils works time to time. Through reflection, teachers need to look
at the effectiveness of planning, teaching, objectives and behavioural
change of pupils. Through this process, teachers could plan a more
effective and quality teaching lesson in the future. We can improve the
educational blog by adding more post and questionnaire in that blog to
check pupils understanding.

Conclusion
The media that I have chosen such as video, interactive power point and
educational blog able the pupils active participation in teaching and
learning in classroom. Three of the media is very helpful to monitor pupils
participation because teacher can access their understanding from time to

time. Therefore, the three media is very easy to prepare and very useful for
teaching and learning section in a classroom.
