tfgm.com/haveyoursay

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is proposing to relocate the bus station in
Wythenshawe from its current site to a brand new site off Poundswick Lane, next to
Wythenshawe Forum. By sharing this site with one of Wythenshawes new tram stops for
the Metrolink extension to Manchester Airport it will create a new transport interchange.
When built, Wythenshawe will have a modern and safe interchange providing excellent public
transport connections for residents and visitors. The new interchange and the release of
land occupied by the existing bus station on Rowlandsway, will maximise opportunities for
regeneration within the town centre.
The new interchange will offer a range of improved
services:
access to buses and trams and ease of movement
between them
modern, fully covered waiting areas
better passenger facilities
better accessibility
improved information and ticketing facilities
a safer and more secure waiting environment.
The scheme will be delivered by TfGM and is being jointly
funded by TfGM and Manchester City Council. TfGM is
working closely with the Council and other stakeholders
to fully integrate bus and Metrolink facilities with the
wider regeneration of Wythenshawe town centre, and the
development of local initiatives, including Airport City.
You can find out more about the proposals by visiting
our public exhibitions at the times and locations listed
on the back page. More images of the interchange
are available on our website including a virtual
fly-through of our proposals. Please visit
www.tfgm.com/haveyoursay to have a look at these.

Q. What will the new interchange look like?

A. The design is at an early stage and the drawings
shown here are for illustrative purposes only.
The new interchange will be fully accessible and
have improved passenger facilities which are
proposed to include:
a TfGM Travelshop, providing tickets and
information
a staffed presence provided by a highly visible
centralised bus supervisors office
a high quality, fully enclosed and accessible
passenger waiting concourse
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)
clear and concise electronic passenger information
cycle parking facilities.
Q. Will the relocation have an impact on current bus
services during construction?
A. The existing bus station will continue to operate
until the new bus station is completed
and operational.

TfGM already has the formal approval to build the

Metrolink tram line and the Wythenshawe town centre
stop. This consultation is focussed on the bus facilities
of the proposed new interchange.

Q. Why are you carrying out this consultation?

A. The consultation will inform our proposals before
they are submitted to Manchester City Council for
planning approval. Feedback is important as it lets
us know if there are any concerns or suggestions
we need to consider as we progress the design.

Q. Why are we building a new interchange?

A. Relocating the bus station will provide a modern
public transport gateway to the town centre.
The new facility will be a high quality transport
interchange which will be better for passengers
and allow easy transfer between buses and trams
and local facilities. The new site will be close to the
shopping centre and will also be nearer to the
Forum complex than the current bus station.

Once the consultation has ended we will consider all

the comments which we have received, and we will
review the proposal. We will then submit a planning
application to Manchester City Council for formal
approval to build the new bus station. If this is
successful, we will then finalise the design. We plan to
start work on site in 2013, with the interchange being
operational for buses in early 2015.
