FUNCTIONS & DUTIES OF BTRC

1. Regulate the establishment, operation and maintenance of telecommunication services in Bangladesh as per Bangladesh
Telecommunication Act 2001;
2. Ensure compliance of this Act and protect consumers interest from unfair practices of any service provider in respect of the charges
imposed on them, and their access to telecom services, and the quality and variety of such services;

3. Encourage research and development activities in telecommunication, and innovative activities and investment in providing
telecommunication services;

4. Maintain and promote competition among the service providers in order to ensure high-quality telecommunication services and by
facilitating access to new entrants;
5. Protect the social & economic interests of the consumers, introduce a mechanism for receiving objections / suggestions, respond to
their needs, and control / abolish the existing / probable oppressive or discriminatory conduct / activities of the telecommunication service
providers;
6. Frame code of practices for the local operators and for BTRC in its relationship with foreign operators;
7. Discharge the international responsibilities of the Government in the field of telecommunication; represent Government in international
conferences, meetings on telecom matters;
8. Set/monitor technical standards and criteria of telecom services and ensure compliance by the Operators;
9. Make arrangements for monitoring the standards set by the Commission and their compliance;
10. Ensure that necessary decisions on all matters are taken quickly, openly, fairly and transparently;
11. Perform such other functions as the Government may from time to time assign;
