Preface
Trans Tech Publications encourages the submission of manuscripts in electronic form
(MS Word). This document explains and demonstrates how to prepare your
manuscript in electronic camera-ready form for Materials Science Foundations.
The best procedure is to read the instructions and to follow the outline provided by
this text. It will be found easiest to make a copy of this file and to replace all of the
text and headings (except when marked 'do not delete') with your own entries.
The page formatting is A4 (297 x 210 mm), and the top/bottom/left/right margins are
2.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 2.5 cm, respectively. Your manuscript will be reduced by
approximately 20% by the printing house. Please keep this in mind when designing
your figures, tables, etc.
The formatting and spacing of the text (12 point Times New Roman), as in this
paragraph, is controlled by the style template: 'TTP text'. If you are not familiar with
the use of style templates, please refer to the handbook or 'help' menu of your wordprocessing program, or consult your system administrator.

CHAPTER 1
1.

INTRODUCTION

All manuscripts must be written in English. Please keep a second copy (in case
anything is lost). Upon receiving the manuscript, we assume that the corresponding
author(s) have granted us the copyright to include the work in the book. If authors use
tables or figures from other sources, they must obtain written permission to do so
from the relevant publisher.
The text is formatted according to the style template, 'TTP text', while the section
headings are formatted according to 'TTP Section Heading', 'TTP Sub-section
Heading', 'TTP Sub-Sub Heading' etc., as shown below. Use italics to emphasise a
word or phrase. Do not use boldface type or capital letters, except for section
headings.
Please note that, for each main chapter you should start a new document. This will
make the book more workable.
