INSTALLATION & OPERATION MANUAL

CAT TB45 DIAGNOSTICS


This software will work on TB45 engines only with ECM and OBDII connector.

INSTALLATION:
1. - Instructions for installing this software:
a- Requires; Pentium III or higher and win 98, 2000, XP (home or pro).
b- This software is able to work with serial or USB ports (USB requires a USB to serial
adapter).
c- This file will Unzip by itself once you click on the icon then the installation process
will start.
d- When the new folder is open click on every next window until finish.
e- Click on finish in the last window and you are ready to work with this software.

OPERATION:
1. When you double click on the icon for this CAT TB45 diagnostics software the front
window appears. Figure 1.

You can see all the menus available on the top: (each menu will be discussed at a later time)
a- Work support
b- Self. Diag. Results
c- Data Display
d- Active Test
e- Service
f- Setup

2- Before you connect the software you have to select from this 3 options:
-English or Metric System: mark the checkbox on metric and will be using metric or uncheck the
box and will be using the English system
-Comm Port: you can select the comm port you want to use for this application, if you are using
USB to serial adapter you need to find the right comm port.
-Language: select the language you want to use then exit and restart the application.
If the application is running and you want to change any option you have to exit the software
before you can make the change. Figure 2.

3- Connection: Now you are ready to connect the software, connect the OBDII cable to the truck
on the left rear engine compartment, then turn the key ON and click on the bottom right
connect button, this may take a few seconds. Figure 3.

a- When you are connected you will see the word connected in the right bottom
corner. Figure 4.

MENUS:
4- Work Support;
The first menu allows you to perform tests in both type of fuels gas or LPG.
Ign Timing Adj: This window helps you to set the correct timing, with timing light and wrenches
at 10. The only way to adjust the timing is manually with timing light and it should be set at 10.

Fuel Pressure Release: this function stops the fuel pump in gas engines in order to release
pressure and give you a chance to do any work on the fuel system. Figure 6.

Adjust Control Menu: This function allows you to increase two different items. Figure 7.
Note: when you close the test screen the test ends.
a- TARGET IGN TIM ADJ; allows you to increase/decrease the ignition timing in order
to find the best ignition timing suited for this engine, then adjust the timing with timing
light and wrenches. We have only 2 settings on the pulley 0 (white line) 10 (red line)

On the next screen you can see engine performance with the new timing setting. Figure 10.

b- TARGET IDLE RPM ADJ; this feature allows you to increase/decrease RPMs from
0 to +250 rpms to check engine performance. Figure 11.

After selecting the increase/decrease amount you can see how the engine performs. Figure 12

Idle Air Vol. Learning Clr.; When you replaced, repaired a component within the fuel system
you need to use this function, what it does it checks the performance of all the system and if it
has been done correctly this function will be completed. Figure 13.

After you press Yes, the function is being performed, it will take 20-30 seconds, and if it takes
longer it has not been repaired properly. Figure 14.

When the Idle Air Vol Learn is completed you will see the following screen; figure 15.

Self Learning Cont Clr: This function erases the settings for the gas fuel injectors the ECM had.
This function must be performed when you clean or replace gas injectors, figure 16 and 17.

LPG Fuel Pressure Release: This function cut the flow of power to the LPG solenoid in order to
release pressure and stop the engine. Figure 18 and 19.

LPG Self-Learning Cont Clr: This function is used to clear the memory on the ECM for the LPG
injector settings. This function must be used when you replace LPG injectors or Throttle body.

5. - SELF DIAG RESULTS: This menu allows you to see all the codes in 3 different screens.
Display Self-Diag Results: This screen will let you see all the active codes on the truck.

Erase Self-Diag Results: This function erases all the present codes; if the cause for the code has
not been repaired it will not be erased. Figure 23.

Display Freeze Frame Data: This screen will show some important data at the time the first code
happen, if there are a few codes present only the first one will be shown. Figure 24.

6. DATA DISPLAY: This screen will show the real time data of the engine fuel system. Once
you click on the tab you also need to click on Load PDI List to load the data items. Then check
the ones you want to see and click on the bottom Requested Selected PIDs. and they will load
in the 6 windows available, if you want to see a different item uncheck the seen items and check
the new one and click on Request Selected PIDs. There are 40 items available. Figure 25-31.

Data Recording: This feature lets you analyze what is happening for a length of time on the items
selected previously and will save it in a file in Excel and placed in the desktop with the
date of the day the recording was taken. There are two buttons in the bottom of the Data
Display window, it says START RECORDING and after starting will say STOP
RECORDING and another window DATA MANAGEMENT will let you see the files
and erase them but in order to review them you need to go to the desktop, the file name
will be the date of the recording. Figure 32 and 33.

Data Management : this window will let you see and erase the files in the desktop. From the
source like Data Display or Service window.
7. ACTIVE TEST: This function will let you test components performance in order to detect
problems that may create codes in the system. You can test injectors in both fuels and one by one
on gas only.

Fuel Injection Rate Test: This function will allow you to increase/decrease the injection
percentage by 25% on gas fuel type only. This function may help you diagnose an injection
problem. Figure 34.

LPG Fuel Injection Rate Test: This function will allow you to increase/decrease the injection
percentage by 25% on LPG fuel type only. This function may help you diagnose an injection
problem. Figure 36.

Ign Timing Test: Increases or decreases the value for adjustment from -10 to 0 and the initial
value is 0. This feature will not set the correct timing only help you find the best timing setting
with the software within a 10 range. If you adjust it, moving the distributor has to be 10 you
will see it on the screen when you set it with the timing light. Figure 38 and 39.

Power Balance Test: This function allows you to test the gas injectors by switching power off to
each selected injector. This test only works in gas engines. This feature will help you find failing
injectors. Figure 40

8. - SERVICE.- This screen let you see 6 pre-selected items, and two buttons;
MIL button; on means you have an active code, sometimes you may have a code with the MIL
off, this means the code is no longer active you just have to erase the code without any repair.
Clear faults button clear the faults when you click the button. Figure 41 and 42.

9.- SETUP.- This screen let you select 3 options:


-Comm port- help you find the port you can use, when you use USB to serial cable you may have
to switch to 3, 4 or 5 to find the right comm port.
-Metric mode if you check it you will use metric. If you uncheck you will use English system.
-Language select- you can select the language you want to use by checking on it. Figure 43.
