A Confession: Death, Burial, and Resurrection to be Free From Sin

“…The religion of many among us will be the religion of apostate Israel, because they
love their own way, and forsake the way of the Lord. The true religion, the only religion of the
Bible, that teaches forgiveness only through the merits of a crucified and risen Savior, that
advocates righteousness by the faith of the Son of God, has been slighted, spoken against,
ridiculed, and rejected. It has been denounced as leading to enthusiasm and fanaticism. But it is
the life of Jesus Christ in the soul. It is the active principle of love imparted by the Holy Spirit
that alone will make the soul fruitful unto good works. The love of Christ is the force and power
of every message from God that ever fell from human lips.” The Ellen G. White 1888 Materials
(1987) > Chap. 49 - To the General Conference

“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” John 1:14

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise
took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that
is, the devil; and deliver them who fear of death were all their lifetime subject unto bondage.”
Hebrews 2:14-15

He took our flesh, exactly the same flesh we bear, yet He did no sin, but He bore our sins
in this flesh of sin.

But what exactly had happened to the human race? Adam, as being the head of the
human family, had sinned. His sin cost him the image of God. He then had sons and daughters,
born into his sinful image and not God’s. Separated from God, the promise of a Savior was
given. Jesus, the Son of Man, came to be that Savior. “For God so loved the world, that He gave
His only begotten Son.” John 3:16 He only had one Son, and He gave Him away… to us. As
Adam was the representative man, the head of the race of human beings, so his sin caused the
“prince of darkness”, Lucifer, the Devil to be the new leader of mankind. Jesus came to this
earth to free us through a process of salvation, a gospel (the good news), “for unto us a Son is
given” Isaiah 9:6 “thou shalt CALL HIS NAME JESUS: for he shall save his people from their
sins.” Matthew 1:21 “they shall CALL HIS NAME Emmanuel, which being interpreted is,
God with us.” Mathew 1:23 This Emmanuel, this God with us, shall declare a victory over the
immense mountain of temptations with which we must suffer. The weight of your sins and mine,
along with the rest of this world’s sinners, brought forth and witnessed this present evil society.

Jesus’ life from birth to Golgotha, as a new representative man, was a life of faith. Even
though He was given the express image of God, He never relied on His own divine powers to
fight the devil’s temptations. The lesson of Jacob’s ladder shows that Jesus must truly touch
earth. “…TOUCHED WITH the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as
[we are, yet] without sin.” Hebrews 4:15 Yet He had faith, faith in His Father, faith to receive
the victory over all the temptations, using only the same tools that we have to use. God’s
promises, God’s Spirit to comfort, God’s covenant oaths and the study of the prophesies all led
Christ Jesus to his knees. Thus in this earthly life before Golgotha, He was affirmed. God’s
words, the Spirit’s words and Jesus’ own confession all testify to the faith of Jesus. Revelation
states in 14:12 “here [are] they that KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS of God, and the faith of
Jesus.” We partake of the faith of Jesus. Not only one like His, yes that also, but the merits of
His victorious life are credited to us. By His virtue He gained the right to bear our sins upon
Golgotha.

Jesus bore the cup of our sins, every one, yours and mine upon his shoulders, pressed
down almost crushing Him. He stated, “IF IT BE POSSIBLE, let this cup pass from me:
nevertheless not as I will, but as thou [wilt].” Mathew 26:39 Every past sin, along with every
present and future sin you shall commit, He bore and suffered for.

Then He was put to death. As the second Adam, a new representative of mankind is
offered. Those who believe can choose Him for a Savior. The Book of Romans introduces these
truths to you and I. Chapters 1-6 tell us that we are bound up with Him, even as in sin we were
bound up in Adam, and the consequences of his sin. Chapter 7 speaks of an unfolding
realization that even though the truth is accepted, the victory of the faith of Jesus is not ours yet.
Chapter 8 onward and the rest of the writings of Paul describes a new life, by His Spirit along
with the righteousness of Christ that comes by faith, apart from the law, but testified by the law
and the prophets as the correct righteousness to obtain, even the righteousness which is of faith,
and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. The righteousness of Christ, wrought out through
the faith of Jesus in His heavenly Father is brought near to us through the Holy Spirit, writing
His law upon our hearts and setting up His temple in our hearts. Faith in His merits, and the
realization that we were given an Example of faith in His Father, we reach out to the deeper
truths.

His death becomes our death. “RECKON ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin”
Romans 6:11 Reckon it to be so. He says that we, our lives, humanity, bound up with Him as
representative man, died on a cross. By faith we are attached to His death.

The writings of Paul throughout the the New Testament declare our Death, Burial, and
Resurrection unto a new life in Christ Jesus. We then are raised up, seated with Him in heavenly
places. We are placed “ in Him”. Being found in Him, He promises to be “in us”. This mystery,
“this mystery among the Gentiles; which is CHRIST IN YOU, the hope of glory” Colossians
1:27 is revealed. Like Christ revealed the glory of God by faith, so we too reveal the glory of
God. “For all the PROMISES OF GOD in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of
God by us “ 2 Corinthians 1:20 There comes a time when we are called to “ARISE, shine; for
thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.” Isaiah 60:1 and “FEAR GOD,
and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven,
and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” Revelation 14:7
The temple of God in heaven is revealed, where the children of Christ dwell safely “in
Him”. this city of refuge, this hiding place, is for all believers. It is only those that have faith,
and the faith of Jesus who can enter in to receive the promises.

I have not attained a seal of God’s approval, to state that I have arrived at completion, but
I can affirm these truths, as evidenced in Scripture and the writings that I promote.

These writings are for you dear friend, to learn of the “Most Precious Message”, of
“Christ in you, the hope of glory”.
