Standard of Graduate Competency


Students have a solid understanding on the basic statistics and its application on the
language education research.

Course Objective
Upon the completion of this subject, students are i) able to decide what statistics
design used in analyzing the quantitative data, ii) able to interpret the data using
statistical form.

Course Description
This subject will critically discuss the basic concepts of statistics and more
importantly the practices regarding to the educational research especially in making
research design of foreign or second language learning.

Learning Approaches
Classes will be organized on a discussion-basis, where students will be required to
undertake reading of some statistical books referenced. Besides that students will be
provided to have many practices to apply the statistics on their interests in
quantitative research.

Assessment will be based on the following components:

Note:
1. The criteria above are subject to change. If the students score distribution is not
normal, the grading policy above will be further adjusted.
2. Students with attendance less than 75% will not be entitled to a grade
3. The lateness more than 10 minutes will not be tolerated.
4. During the class, students should make their mobile/cellular phones silent.

who complete late.
