COVER LETTER
I hope youve decided to take part in this survey. My study is on Integrated, online and face-to-face
(Classroom) language learning and Im hoping to discover students attitudes towards online learning
with no time spent in a classroom, integrated learning with time spent in the classroom as well as online,
as compared to learning in a traditional classroom situation. I ask that you please complete and return
the enclosed survey as soon as you can.
The survey is attached below and it contains twenty questions. Your answers will be kept confidential
so feel free to answer honestly. I appreciate your help.
Kind regards,
Was it based on demand by students & faculty, the need to promote the Xhosa language or by
merely a partnership between the 2 universities (Bayreuth and Fort Hare)?
Why was it introduced in the first instance as an online course rather than a regular (traditional)
classroom course?
What was the attendance rate when it was it was first introduced as online based and whats the
attendance rate now?
What factors prompted the transition from online to the traditional classroom or both?
Are there any observations in students attitudes towards both mediums of instruction? If any,
what are these?
Which departments are the course participants drawn from? Are they from different faculties in
the university or from a specific faculty?
Are there any plans to maintain or change the current mode of instruction?
10 As a visiting Professor and the brain behind introducing this course, what will the fate be of
Xhosa language teaching and learning in Bayreuth when you return back to your home
university?
11 Is there any teaching assistant wholl take over the course in Bayreuth or will the mode of
instruction be reverted to the online medium?
12 From your observation and experience, do you think Xhosa language can be fully integrated into
the Language center of Bayreuth University? What are the reasons for such possibility?
13 Do you have any recommendations or suggestions about how the Xhosa languages course can be
effectively taught and studied at the University of Bayreuth?
