This cartoon references Obamas search for a new defense secretary while at the same
time comparing him with George W. Bush. Both President Obama and Gorge W. Bush are
portrayed in the cartoon. Obama is portrayed as usual with large ears and looks rather arrogant.
Bush is portrayed as an old retired man, doing old people things like art and taking a bath.
Beelers opinion is that Obama and Bush are the same and that Obama agrees with Bushs
defense decisions. I dont agree with the cartoonists opinions because Obama has made
extremely different defense decisions than Bush, including ending the Middle Eastern wars that
Bush started. This cartoon shows that the cartoonist isnt especially liberal or conservative, as he

is critiquing both Democrats and Republicans in the same cartoon. This cartoon would anger
both Democrats and Republicans who do not want to be seen as similar to each other, but the
opinion of Beeler is that they are the same. Beelers cartoons are often funny but also have an
important and sometimes radical message behind them.

This cartoon is about Jeb Bush entering the race for GOP Presidential candidate. Jeb
Bush is portrayed in this cartoon as the Christmas present of the Republicans, represented by two
elephants. Beeler is making fun of the Republicans feelings about Bush as they are unable to
decide if he is a good choice for president or a bad one. Beeler is once again showing his
neutrality, making fun of the Republicans. I dont have a strong opinion about any of the current
GOP Presidential hopefuls, including Jeb Bush, as none of them have really made an extreme or
important stand on any current issues. This cartoon is silly and might extract a chuckle from the
Democrats and mild annoyance from the Republicans, but no extreme emotions. This cartoon is

typical of Beeler. It is silly and funny and meant to make the reader laugh, but it still has a deeper
meaning behind it.

This cartoon was inspired by the Charlie Hebdo crisis. After the event, many people,
especially cartoonists, voiced their support for Charlie Hebdo with the phrase Je Suis Charlie.
Beeler has drawn himself into the cartoon to join this movement, portrayed as a cartoonist
working. The cartoon is filled with symbols; the ink dripping to symbolize the work of the
cartoonist along with the various writing instruments cartoonists use to work. The ink splatter on
the paper looks very similar to the blood spatter on the Charlie Hebdo page. The dead hand in
that same frame is covered in ink to represent that it was the cartoons that killed them. There are
police officers, firefighters, nurses, army members, navy members, and air force members all

lined up to represent the defenders of our country. Beeler is very much in support of this
movement and I agree with him completely. There is no political leaning or bias evident, just the
opinion of Beeler and his support of the movement. The cartoon is meant to inspire pride in
cartoonists and show them what they can really do. This cartoon is not meant to be funny like
most of Beelers cartoons, but has a very strong message about the need for cartoonists to stand
together on this issue.

This cartoon regards the recent plot discovered where Boehners bartender wanted to
poison him. Boehner is depicted in the cartoon covered and surrounded by symbols. There is a
rope to symbol hanging labeled Dems, which represents how the Democrats dislike him. There
is a knife in his back labeled Tea Party, which represents how the Tea Party dislikes him.
Behind this all, Obama is pouring hazard materials into a well labeled Congress, which
represents how Obama doesnt like the new Republican Congress. The message of this cartoon
and Beelers opinion is that no one likes Boehner. I agree with this statement, because everyone,
even members of his own party, critiques and dislikes the things that Boehner does. Once again,

Beeler shows his political neutrality, showing both Republicans and Democrats in a negative
light. This is one of Beelers typical cartoons, meant to elicit a laugh but also meant to get the
reader to think about how they see Boehner compared to how others see Boehner.
